Artistic Influences for Cyrodiil

Hello,

I'm a modder on the Province:Cyrodiil project for Morrowind, and I've been working on creating some new armor sets for the province http://i.imgur.com/CffY9.jpg. Even though the project aims to make Cyrodiil more distinctive than its presentation in Oblivion, I'd like to keep the armors somewhat similar in spirit to Oblivion's by drawing from some of the same sources. So I was wondering if anyone could point me to real-life armor styles that influenced Oblivion's art style other than the obvious medieval European aesthetic.

For an example of what I'm talking about, the chainmail armor set has some noticeable http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww71/chalklands/Armour/scan0021.jpg (and Rislav the Righteous makes reference to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klibanion), but I'm having trouble pinpointing specific styles for most of the others. And for the sake of clarity, I'm mostly looking at the iron, steel, leather, chainmail, and ebony sets - that is, the sets that are made and worn by the Imperials themselves.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
