Why do the characters talk like children?

seriously though, if there's one thing I hate about RPG's whether it be Fallout, TES or others, it's that the playable characters seem like idiotic children in grown up bodies. Here's an example.

Spoiler
When talking to the dragon up on The Throat Of the World and he tells you that Alduin is coming back to eat the world the character is forced to reply with "But I like this world"

I mean they couldn't have made him or her more... advlt? maybe "That won't happen, Stand with me and fight him!" or you know something that's not childish. I can't count how many lame answers there are to questions when they could have made the answer more... serious. It seems that it's either compltely stupid, crazy, maniac, or childish, what if I'm playing a brave character? He's not going to reply with "But I like this world..."

Am I the only one? I hope not...
