Old World Blues advice or tips

I'm going to be attempting this DLC tomorrow for the 3rd time. Both times previously, back on the consoles, I ended up just quitting my character all together. I found this DLC to be quite frustrating with how the enemies spawn. I want to complete this DLC as its the only one I haven't finished. Not that I was finding it difficult, although the robo scorpions being bullet sponges gets old really fast. But it was just overall frustration. Constantly in 'Caution' when travelling the Big MT.

Anyways, i'm lvl 16, and I just picked up Robotics Expert. Going to take Better Criticals next level up. I have about 400 rounds of 5.56 AP and 300 HP 5.56 rounds for the Marksman Carbine, and about 560 12.7mm hand load rounds for the Survivalist Rifle, with the grunt perk. I also have thump thump with about 20 pulse rounds for it, and I have a schematic that allows me to craft more, so I should be able to add another 20 to 30 pulse rounds. My strength is just 5, but it looks like I can still use a proton axe, I just have to get my melee up another 20 points it looks like. I equipped my Legion gas mask which adds +10 to melee, so that should help. I still get the hunch that I don't have enough ammo.

But anyways, was just wondering on some tips, or some ways to keep me going in this DLC and not wanting to quit half way through. My whole RP on this character, is that I am tracking down Ulysess for Caeser. Plus I also wouldn't mind picking up Christines sniper rifle for Lonesome Road and the final main quests.
