Scared? No, I had this planned out a month ago. I'm a battlemage, and I'm abusing conjuration by grinding it over and over for levels and perks. Just conjuration. Fastest skill to level up IMO, when combined with enchanting to make the cost 0.

Your subject line made me chuckle :D

I'm looking forward to it sooo much ... all my magic is at 100 .... and I plan on never grinding anything again.

Use Skills that can level quickly, I have a character that Dual Wields Bound Swords and Conjuration was "Legendarised" before Level 30. If You have not started building houses in the Hearthfire DLC, Smithing will be increased quite a bit just building items for the homes.
A Sneak/Illusion Mage can use Muffle and raise Illusion two or three times during the normal life of a character.

Should try it with muffle and do illusion instead :tops:

shouldn't potions and enchantments make it so you can still improve things regardless of level?

Wait........legendary skills is really just about perk points? it doesn't actually make your skills more.....powerful?

I'm not using illusion for this character, and I don't want to level it even if I could just reset it afterwards.

To a grade, yes. Have you ever seen enchantments and potions that allowed someone to improve something to Legendary status from beginner skill? Not to mention, it also reset perks, which also factor into the improvement quality.

Why would they? Without the appropriate perk, improving an item to legendary requires 168 skill level. You'd need to boost your 15 level Smithing by over 1000% to get to this point. In fact, I'm surprised that your equipment allowed you to reach even flawless.

In the end it gives you more perk points to spend on your skills, but that's it. You also have more health/magicka/stamina, but that doesn't affect your skills directly.

This is true, resetting a Main Skill will cause a character to become a Novice again, and the character will have to relearn the Skill from usage, or Skill Trainers.
SquattingTurtle, resetting a Skill resets Perks, a Skill needs to be relevelled and reperked to be as effective as it was before it became a Legendary Skill. An enchantment can increase the amount of inprovement on a Crafting Skill, but without the relevant Perks an item will not be as affected by Smithing/Alchemy/Enchanting.
