Is It Possible To Display Something Upright?

Post » Tue Apr 09, 2013 6:44 am

No matter what I try to pick up & place, it defaults to upside down -- doesn't matter what part of the item I grab. I don't get it. In Oblivion, I could just grab one side of an item, tilt, and voila! Item placed like I wanted. Skyrim on the other hand, is an entirely different story.

I never really messed with this before -- I just stuck w/ the in-game displays -- but, I'm trying now & it's bugging the ever loving hell out of me. Anyone have any tips or tricks to help me? I'm on the 360, btw. Cheers!

This stupid mishap was introduced in one of the earlier patches. 1.6...I think.

The only way to do it is to fiddle with the object by bumping it into a wall or the edge of a table. Using other static objects to turn it over. A royal pain, so I gave up on placing objects outside of using the CK for decoration.

This is a problem that is in all versions of the game. There are a few tricks, but you should also know something about placing items in the house: If you drop an item in an area, it needs to reset in the area when it loads for it to remain in the position you leave it in. Say you walk into your house and set a table and arrange shelves with items fresh from your inventory. When you leave and come back, you'll find them scattered around the area. Trick to this is to drop the item once you enter a house, leave and come back. This way it will be part of the area and when you set it this time it'll stay there.

Now for actually placing the items, pivoting the item around the edge of the table helps. Get the item near the table and push it against the upper edge so that it pivots to an upright position, then slide it across until it's in place. Another trick is to have it up in the air and quickly slam it down and release once you get to the surface you're placing it on (I do this for cups and goblets all the time). The momentum will force it to be upright when travelling downward and if you release it at the right time, it'll be right where you need it to be (or at least able to slide it around).

Good luck. I hope they fix this soon.
