Can't Go 2 Minutes Without Freezing

Post » Thu Apr 11, 2013 1:42 pm

Looks like Skyrim days have come to an end for me. I impatiently waited over 5 weeks for patch 1.9 to get here & now it's here & after a few hours of playing (in total, not in one session), I'm freezing every two minutes -- quite literally.

This is the 3rd such time in Skyrim's life where I hit a point of endless freezing. I keep coming back after a few months & another patch, but I don't know if I have another one in me (or if Bethesda has another patch in them..) -- there's nothing more frustrating in gaming, for me at least, than getting immersed in a game only to have it suddenly, and abruptly, become unplayable.

I am somewhat of a Bethesda games' vet, so I know the ins & outs. I never use autosaves, I rotate hard saves, I routinely clear both game & console caches and all the other hoops we players need to go through just to keep playing. It's a shame. It's a game you can truly get lost in, but I'm tired now. Maybe I'll try later ("I wish I knew how to quit you!").

I know now one cares--cool story, bro--but I felt like venting my frustrations & now I have. Cheerios!

You didn't mention which console you're on.

I can take I guess though.

Xbox 360.
Oh. Shocker. I wasn't expecting that.

I actually hardly hear these problems with the Xbox.

Happened to me twice earlier while gathering ingredients. Also on the 360.

Sorry to hear that :cookie: .
Bethesda games are great but they do come with there problems.

Maybe you can uninstall the 1.9 patch and try again.

I had those problems back in 1.8 (I have the 360 version too). To this day, I don't know the cause, even the PC version runs better for me.

This is strange - I've got around 500 hours on my xbox 360 playing Skyrim and never had a consistent, reproduceable issue. Maybe you've got bum hardware? Are you sure you're device has adequate memory? I think I'm working with 4 gig. Good luck, don't give up on the game.

Everyone I know on the 360 has had some level of freezing issues since launch -- whether they're people my FL or people I know from the Xbox forums. As far as I can tell, freezing has been a pretty big issue on the 360 since 11.11.11...

I have a Jasper Elite & have no real issues with the playability of other games. I can go 4 months playing Skyrim and freeze once, maybe twice; then all of the sudden I'll freeze every 5 minutes or so until I commit domestic violence and give up.

I have been seeing a few Xbox folks with this constant freezing. I don't know what factor decides who has these problems and who doesn't but I am on Xbox and have had no issues, my game actually seems to be running better. I deleted all my saves and started Skyrim all over after I installed 1.9 though, I think the people who are having these issues of constant freezing are playing on characters that already existed before they installed 1.9. Maybe there is something in 1.9 that is causing errors for certain people who have already completed certain quest before installing it, I don't know.

Have to. Uninstalled games run too hot & I'm not risking ANOTHER red ring...

Nope. I deleted all existing saves prior to installing 1.9. I am all too familiar with Bethesda patches adding more bugs than they fix w/ existing save files.

Oh, well I don't know then. I have never been able to understand how just certain people playing on the same console can have issues like this while others don't... I guess there could be several factors

Have you tried playing off line? I had problems the other night when playing FO NV so I disconnected from Xbox live and it was fine. Microsoft do rather like to do regional maintainance without telling anyone every now and then.

How long do you play in a single setting before you start to freeze?

Does it start as soon as you play or does it start freezing after a few hrs of continuous play?

I've been having the same issue since the patch. It'll usually happen when entering or exiting a building, but yesterday it happened while I was running from Lakeview to Riverwood. My son has had the same issue as well. He's also lost Hearthfire on his current character, but DB is still active. Hearthfire is also still active on my current.

Just some strange things that have happened since the download. Frame rate stutter step, freezing and a DLC issue.

I was just was reading a thread in the 360 forums and a few people are claiming that by clearing their system cache after installing 1.9 these problems stopped. The suspect being, possibly, old 1.8 formatted files that may have not been deleted when you installed 1.9 and these files not matching the new 1.9 format are causing errors. Clearing cache will delete these temp files. I clear my cache once a day, everyday. I assume you may have already tried this but I am just putting it out there. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1454300-patch-19-constant-crashes/, post #12

This makes sense, I'm another one who clears the cache whenever I'm on, it's a good habit to get in to and can save a lot of grief.
