Hello dear fella Fallout players...

As my topic indicates i have some issues during play time.... I havent really gone very deep into the history of the game, as matter of fact i just escaped the first vault - and then i started experiencing random crashes. I then started searching the internet for solution and found out that fallout some problem to get working

Therefore i hope that you will be able to help me out

I am running Quadcore and have tried the ini fix, nothing....

I have set up my ffdshow, nothing.....

Installed the latest update, nothing.....

Though i somehow manage to force the crash to happen often when i try to search something in the game (Particular a mailbox just outside the vault), or i try to enter my arm computer.... Almost everytime i want to enter a "Green screen"

Hi Jelly,

I was having big issues too with the game CTD at different times......after 5 mins, then maybe good for an hour or CTD 4 times in an hour.

Saw lots of possible fixes for lots of different things while looking for a solution, tried a few and all failed!!!

However, one of the solutions mentioned the ffdshow audio decoder and to exclude fallout3 from using it. I tried it and it didn't make a difference, BUT one thing i did notice was, whilst playing the game, the radio station and sometimes normal audio had a static, crackle effect to it!!

I thought this was just part of the games audio style to represent static from the radioactive environment, I WAS WRONG hahaha. it was my on-board sound card drivers ( realtek HD audio codec).
Downloaded and installed this file, Vista_Win7_R251.exe , just incase you were wondering which driver set i used. Just noticed you're using Win XP, i'm using Win7, but there is an XP version available and i think its upto R2.52 now.

Its the first time for me over MANY years and LOTS of games that a basic sound driver has caused so much grief. Video cards and drivers to be expected, and some more advanced plug-in sound cards, yes, but a basic sound card!?!?!

Anyway, can't say it will cure it for you as there seems to be a shed load of different issues and possible solutions, but it worked for me and not had one crash since. NOW i can enjoy the game.

ohh [censored].... I tested the mailbox for long never been able to enter it that many times.... but, after searching the mailbox and then entering other "green screens"..... I fail.... CTD.... FFS.... Tomoorow ill install windows 7 and then see what happens.... I hope that it will make the diffrent... else i have to delete this game, and then i have the feeling that iam going to miss something....

Still im ready for reasonible solutions that aint posted before....
