I was curious as to how you chose your Stewards?
For myself, I looked at several factors:
1) Clothing: I don't really like having my stewards wearing common things like Iron Armor. I don't think the Steward should by default be dressed for war, so I tend to go with mages for my Stewards (Illia is my Steward at Lakeview). The one Steward I have that isn't in robes or civilian wear is Adelaisa Vendicci, but she wears heavy Imperial Armor, which looks more unique than the armor most followers wear.
2) Class: Since my Steward is usually in plain clothes, I try to get one that compliments my Housecarl. Since most of the Housecarls are warriors, I have magic based Stewards to compliment them. Again, the exception is Adelaisa Vendicci, who compliments the magic using Housecarl in Morthal.
3) Level of interaction/Level of importance in their area of origin: I like to make Stewards out of the followers whose absence won't have a huge impact on the area they're found in. Illia's perfect for that, since she lives alone, but others work quite well too. I don't like uprooting people and taking them from their friends/family. Especially if they talk to lots of people.
4) Race: This is a minor one, but it does come into play, especially when I'm playing a non-human. For my Dunmer character who marries Brelyna Maryon, Talvas Fathryon acts as the Steward of our main home.
So what about you all?
Also, for the house in the Pale, does anyone have an opinion on who should be my Steward? I'm torn between the Telvanni apprentice from Dragonborn and
Also, also, I kinda wish we had the opportunity to have Stewards in our non-Hearthfire homes. And of course having a house, Housecarl, etc. added in Winterhold would have been excellent.
