Why is everyone rooting for fallout 4? Skyrim>FO

Post » Tue Apr 16, 2013 2:11 pm

Am I the only one who see's this as slightly flame baitish?
I mean, trying to assert a personal opinion as fact, while giving a uniquely lame "What I like is better than that because it's different" reason, it just reeks of "I wanna poke this bee hive and see how many come flying out" stigma.

A-yup, definitely agree with you on that.

"Yeah, why the hell would anyone be excited about the next FO game, when clearly I like skyrim better!!!1!"

Logic = Flawed.
I love both, a lot. For different reasons. But I'll admit, I'd be ok with a change in scenery for the next year or two, I say bring on another FO. In the meantime, skyrim is complete, so enjoy it in its grandeur. Now, like me, you can craft a complete story, rather than holding off and waiting for dlc.

Regardless, Skyrim's DLC was on a good track... that crashed and ended it's amazing run horribly killing all passengers on board.
Yup. That's about right...
Even though I would have prefer long ago that they would get Fallout 4 on its way; I was caught off guard by this news too, ya know. I wish they had put an official goodbye or sorry or... something... on the forums just to let us slowly digest the news.

I like Fallout's story, but it's a bit too depressing for me. I can't really enjoy playing it.

I do however wish that they work on Fallout 4 first on next gen consoles. Let it be their testing pig, much like Oblivion was the current gen's.

Nostalgic wannabe hipsters love to rage at Bethesda for apparently "butchering" the Fallout series. At least TES fans are pleased with what they get most of the time.

Oh dear lord, it's going to happen again...Like a [censored]ing prophecy...
Fallout 4 gets the green light, and suddenly they start to return from the woodworks...Espousing how Bethesda ruined Fallout, how Van Buren was the BEST VIDEO GAME EVER MADE...despite the fact it was never finished except a tech demo...Bringing forth a brand of insane, irrational, dare I say religious reverence for Fallout, except Fallout 3, and how New Vegas was the Second Coming of their lord and master, Chris Avelone, scribe of the holy tome.

I don't know. I kind of like they are working on the new game, its just skyrim feels it has less closure in comparison to morrowind and oblivion. I guess Beth wants to tell us that closing ties is bad for business I mean lore direction to preserve replayability and to retain the urge to pursue the next TES game

In Skyrim I was engaged in an epic battle with nothing but my mace to defend myself against a ravenous bear, I had too climb up onto a nearby ruin to get a place to heal myself but in the end the bear caught up and I had to finish him off as well as the bandits in the ruin. I stripped all their gear and sold it at Whiterun whilst enjoying ale and Aela at Jorvasskr.

In New Vegas I shot some ghouls with a shotgun.

Not a serious post.

Yeah, if I describe one scenario in detail and vaguely reference another one I can make it look like something is more interesting too. Teachers used to do it all the time in Primary school to get kids to do maths.
Well that's really what I'm doing in Skyrim these days; there just aren't any real threat in Skyrim, and since I've explored every corner of Skyrim, exploration has no depth now. And I can't roleplay.

I had the most fun with my Illusion Conjuration Assassin; we had good times, girl, good times...

Ulyesses started wacking me with a golden bird.

Miraak blew me away with a cyclone shout and our comrades in the sky fought one another in a flurry of flame and ice. Miraak and me clashed blade, magic, and thum to decide who was the ultimate Dragonborn.

I don't understand why people get pissy over someone's else excitement (in these matters). I hold a deep passion of both series and for different reasons.

Am I sad Skyrim is drawing to a close? Of course.
Am I excited about focus being on a new FO game? Absolutely!

They're no more of a FPS than any of the TES games. Just different types of weapons. The basic approach is the same in all of these games, which are FPS/RPG hybrids. And you don't even have to play them as an FPS either, both series have a third person view.

This. Also, it's the exact same group of people at Bethesda Game Studio who worked on Oblivion -> Fallout 3 -> Skyrim. They are all Todd Howard projects.

I really enjoyed Fallout: New Vegas. I hope they do the same thing with Fallout 4.

I can imagine Todd Howard doing a presentation on the design for Fallout 4 and being all stressed out and sweating because he's not only got Bethesda's shareholders watching him, he also has a gang of older Fallout fanatics armed with Barrett M82A1 sniper rifles outside ready to pull the trigger at the sight of any changes to the sacred object of their cult.

I agree, but:
1) it's highly subjective and
2) they did the same thing with Fallout 3.

Regardless, there's going to be outrage on the forums about how dumbed down the next title is, how shallow and casual it is, and how Skyrim/Fallout 3 were vastly superior. ;)

IF Fallout 4 is written by Obsidian,

Frederick Sinclair approves.

...I know that's supposed to be a joke, but why would they let anyone into a conference room with that kind of ordinance?

There aren't real consequences in Skyrim. In Fallout, especially NV hardcoe you have to ration ammo and food and actively scavenge just to make it through the day. Then there's the unexpected; usually in the form of charging Deathclaws and heavily armed gunmen.

Arrow beats shotgun at long range.
Sneak backstab beats tactical nuke at short range.
