Whew....No More DLCs.....No Problem!

Post » Thu Apr 18, 2013 8:21 pm

I just gave away my Game Cube, XBOXes, over 10 years of console games (including Skyrim); to move on to PC gaming!!!! I'm a newbie, so when I go to my local game store to buy some Bethesda PC games, lo-and behold, NONE of them work well (if at all) on Windows 8!!!! When I try to use the compatibility feature on Windows 8.....Nada!! When I contact both Microsoft and Bethesda to help fix the problems, to their credit they gave me some suggestions.....with a disclaimer that the games weren't made for Windows Windows 8. What the real zinger here is, is that to play a, some what, newer Bethesda game disc, you HAVE to join STEAM on line.....Including Skyrim!!! So I join STEAM, that is until I notice they make the problems worse....that, and all the tracking cookies, and ZOMBIE cookies that came with the membership. So when I hear Bethesda won't make anymore DLCs for Skyrim...I say good, I'm not missing anything!!! Sorry....I haven't vented in awhile!!!! SagerNP9370, Dual 4096MB NVidia GTX680Ms, Both 1 and 2 Harddrives: 480GB Intell 520 series SSDs, Max cooling features on heat sinks, RAM: 32GB DDR3 1600MHz dual channel memory (4SODIMMS), with overclocking.

The only problem here is that you jumped on the Windows 8 train much too early. Sorry.

Are you sure your computer is good enough to run Skyrim? Also, Steam is a great service. You're mssing out if you don't use it, but sure, whatever.

This is troubling actually. I just got a new computer with Windows 8 yesterday but haven't tried any games on it yet. Is it true that Fallout, Elder Scrolls and most other games don't work on it?

I was told by Dell and Alienware that windows 8 has stability issues with many many games, so I opted for 7.

I agree. Windows 8 wasn't ready for market, and it's glitchy as all bejezzis. I really, REALLY, miss Windows XP!!!!

I can understand the frustration about PC gaming. I started being a PC gamer a year ago and have probably spend 100+ hours just trying to get various games to run. Skyrim is actually one of the games that I have the least problems with.

I have tried FallOut 3 (no STEAM needed), w patches, and it still crashes where you have to shut down everything to reboot. I have tried F/O New Vegas (STEAM required), was doing well until DLCs were played, then crash central all the time. I went to buy Skyrim, until I noticed STEAM was required, so I refused to buy the game. In Bethesdas defense, they did indeed tell me that their past games were not intended to play on Windows 8, and there is a strong possibility that no matter what you do, they still may not work. Buyer Beware!

Heck, I might reinstall XP just to play the older games I like, or want to explore.

I am still using Win XP and I could not be happier. Everything works.

It took me a while to get into steam, so I can understand why you would not like it. I enjoy being able use the overlay, and the steam sales are pretty awesome sometimes.

I'm getting Skyrim for PC soon, and I have W8. So I might have problems running it? I plan on getting a hard copy because my internet is rather slow and Skyrim would take forever to download. I downloaded Morrowind from Steam and it's only crashed once.
