Are you fond of a certain Atronach?

I'm playing a new PC - a stealth and magic build - and one of the principle techniques for survival is to conjure atronachs. They dole out the damage and keep the baddies off you at the same time. I have to admit that I'm growing particularly fond of the Frost Atronach. That guy has blocked up narrow tunnels and bought me time to heal/recuperate on so many occasions that I actually feel happy to see him pop up. You can't name an Atronach, but I've taken to calling him Mongo (partially from Shrek, partially from Blazing Saddles). Anyone else experience something similar (I don't use followers but I'm guessing they qualify as well).

While playing my mage character, I was fond of the Flame Atronachs. Id always use them. Then once my conjuration hit 100, I always had a trusty flame thrall at my side.

The frost atronach is great for blocking tunnels, just make sure you don't get caught on the wrong side of the tunnel cause they can block your escape if you do that . . .

Right - I've gotten good at casting the spell in the direction I'm running and getting through the black and blue 'void' just as he appears so he ends up behind me. In a worst case scenario, if you he's blocking my path, I'll re-cast to a different location and clear him from my path. Mongo is a buddy.

I have a conjuration based character who just got frost atronach but does not have enough magicka/cost reduction to cast it twice, so I have to be really careful where I cast it.

I have a favorite flame atronach named Melissa. She is HOT! :D
(If I summon and it is not her, I kill the one that appeared and summon again...)

No doubt - I had similar constraints but I've got enough magicka at level 31 to get away with it. FYI if you also want the spell for the Storm Atronach:
Spoiler
be sure to visit the UESP page for the Atronach Forge in the Midden of the Mage's College at Winterhold: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Atronach_Forge
All you need to create the spell book is a deathbell, a ruined book, a mammoth tusk, and void salts (you can get the void salts at the college once you're accepted as a student). It's an expensive spell to cast, but the Storm Atronach is pretty awesome in open space against enemy mages/spell casters.

Sorry - forgot to add the quote for context, see below.
