Question for Serious Mage Players

Post » Sat Apr 20, 2013 2:03 am

Im thinking of starting a new character as a pure mage. Id like to focus on Conjuration and Destruction while using the defensive spells of Alteration and Restoration. Not interested in Illusion. I wanna know what is the best way to balance these and what other skill trees do you use that only pertains to mages?
I always have the tendency to switch from robes to armor once my enchanting reaches 100. But I dont want to do that this time. Ideas? Thanks

Probably want to start as an Altmer. They have all the magic boosts and have the 50 plus Magicka.

Might want to also go for 200ish Health, no Stamina, and the rest into Magicka.

Yeah and when I enchant, I always fortify magika. I played an Altmer before. Thinking of Breton this time around due to their starting magic resistance.

As you've said, I always fortify magika. However, I always buy Robes of Destruction AND Conjuration, disenchant these and them spam them on every piece of clothing! Also, I always have one enchantment to increase magika regeneration.

I always invest first into Destruction and Conjuration, then working my way onto Alteration (purely for the spells like Oakflesh) and Conjuration. Make sure you have the first Perk in each Skill Tree by level Four, just so you can use the basic spells without using too much of your magika.

When leveling up, I got five levels of putting points into Magika then five of health - just to make sure they're going up evenly, but also so that I can notice a difference. I invest in Magika first, purely because if you have big reserves of it, you can take out enemies before they get in striking range AND heal faster. Health then comes second.

Also, if you wish to take out dragons without using weapons, invest in the Firebolt Spell as quickly as you can!

It depends really. Which ever your speciality is going to be focus on that and putting most of your perks there. If conjuration then invest in Atromancy and necromancy (double duration time for conjured Atronachs and un-dead) which will allow your minions to last longer in battle. other perks such as Elemental potency (Atronachs are 50% more powerful) would help with this. If you're focusing on destruction just follow what you want to do (Fire, frost or shock.) As for defence, mainly focus on restoration, IMO it provides more benefits when facing no magic opponents. But Alteration perks such as Magic resistance and Mage armour are essential when facing other mages. As for balance, focus heavily on your speciality with other skills like restoration and alteration coming next. As for other skill trees Alchemy and light armour would be your best choices. As for your race, Altmer are the best choice as they offer the best magic bonuses. Also when you level up focus on a ratio of Magicka to Health of 8:2. :D
