Aiming with a bow.

I understand that Morrowind combat works like Daggerfall (which I'm totally cool with) but I wonder: when I'm shooting with a bow, do I actually need to hit the enemy like in later TES or do I just need to aim at the creature's general direction like in Daggerfall? I'm low level and poor as dirt so I can't really experiment on this myself, but I find it hard to hit with a bow since the arrow doesn't follow the crosshair but goes a little left of it. Hitting all kinds of worms and rats is difficult, but I can't tell if it's my aiming or just my character's low skill that makes it.

Also, I am constantly being harassed by Dark Brotherhood assassins. Are they part of a quest? Because if they are, I don't want to start it since DB outfits are bloody expensive. Every time I rest there's one coming at me - makes me rich.
