You know what I hate?

Post » Tue Apr 23, 2013 1:56 pm

I hate when shop owners follow me when I'm trying to steal something browsing the shop's wares.

I especially hate the Bit's and Pieces woman.

As soon as I enter the shop she stands up and looks to see what I'm doing.

Anywhere I go in that shop she's right behind me. Annoying.

Bad way to treat your customers.

Is it because I'm a Dark Elf? Racist shop owners, dood.

No joke.

It is good that this happens

They are making sure you dont steal from them.

If you break line of sight with them they always start following you...I can't walk to the alchemy table in Angeline's Aromatics without the old lady looking over my shoulder.

Michael, you really think I'd do something like that? Steal from a shop?

Seems perfectly reasonable.
I would far rather they did that than just stand there like lemons.

Would you feel comfortable if you went to a store and an employee would follow you around as you shopped?

It's happened to me when I was younger.

I was saying They are making sure you dont steal. it is quite realistic. I have been in a shop IRL and the shop keeper was staring at some guy watching were he was going.

I work in a shop and I'm tempted to follow some people around to make sure they don't

I think it's a nice touch. The shopkeepers aren't just going to let you steal [censored] when you're out of their line of sight.

What if the roles were reversed.

Would you feel comfortable with someone following you around a shop and assuming that you'd probably steal something?

Pretty good AI. The higher NPC AI the better!

It's fine if they're sitting back and watching over the customers.

They're there to serve you and do business.

But I think it's a huge insult to follow a customer around as they shop.

I know they already have, I am friends with the security guards and they've told me of timesthey've followed me, can be pretty scary when they're like "do you smoke? well you hang out with people who do." but I stand by my previous statement, if I'm not going to steal, I have nothing to hide, follow me all you like

They followed you in Oblivion as well...It isn't exactly an improvement. AI in general has a long way to go in video games. Imagine actual radiant AI with full developing/developed personalities based on events in game...I want it.

op: You do realize there's an entire organizations dedicated to stealing and murder, don't you? Not surprising the shopkeepers would want to keep an eye on their "customers".

NPC AI is now in Skyrim better than it's ever been.

Just moments ago I saw the two beggars in Riften ask other NPCs for coin, and two out of three actually gave them (Grelka didn't - unsurprisingly). World interactions still need some polishing for the next game but it has taken huge leaps over the years.

I don't hate that. It actually makes sense. I had a shop of my own a while back, and while I don't follow customers to wherever they go, I had cameras. It's basically the same thing.
