I think I finally know why you cant marry Hadvar

Sooo... I sided with Hadvar after Helgen and joined the Legion. Fought pretty far and Hadvar always seems to praise me.

Met Alvor, Sigrid and their daughter Dorthe after Helgen.
A dragon killed Sigrid with Dorthe watching. Dorthe standing over her mothers charred corpse saying "Nooo mama!" :(
Later in the game ANOTHER dragon kills her father Alvor.

Dorthe disappeared so I thought "Hey, Ill check the orphanage" (you never know) as I felt responsible for her parent being killed, not to mention her being my legion-friend Hadvar's first cousin.

So, seems I CAN adopt her.

So this is where its at. If you could marry Hadvar, that would mean that Hadvar is also her step-father while she being his first cousin and that your character is having six with Dorthe's father's nephew. In addition to being responsible for the deaths of her parents and the deaths of Hadvars's uncle and aunt.

Groovy?

Even though I'm male, I would marry someone else.

I thought you were going to say that Hadvar ends up taking care of Dorthe.
I don't really see a problem with him becoming her guardian, even as your husband. She's just a child and he's her blood relation who lives in the very same town she lived in. Seems logical to me.

Still does not make sense because you two would be essentially becoming her guardians and not actual parents, I am pretty sure it wouldn't be disgusting.

This.

Also, it doesn't explain why you can't marry Ralof. Or take any of them as followers. I think the explanation is much simpler: "Whoops, we never thought about it."
