Removing "Hidden" Permanent Stat Reductions?

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 4:39 am

During the testing of some new addiction effects, I removed the mod and saved before getting rid of the spell, so now I have some permanent (and hidden on the status screen!) SPECIAL stat reductions that make my Level 20 character fight like a Level 1 baby.

I actually didn't notice the stat reductions until a while later and, as luck would have it, I don't have any saves to revert back to. I've also tried console commands like ModAV, SetAV, and so on, but none of them fix the problem at hand. I searched all over for a solution to this problem, but I've found that my search terms are too broad to find anything helpful on Google.

So, does anyone know how to reset my character's stats back to normal without starting an entirely new game?

E/ Here are some pictures of the problem I'm having.

There are three pictures in that album. As you can see, my SPECIAL stats and skills are being affected by something (they all have a (-) notification beside them). However, as you can see from the status effects screen, there are no status effects that are affecting me. So they are 'hidden' permanent stat reductions that I can't get rid of.

That's annoying. The best possible thing would be to reinstall the mod and play from a point where you still had it installed, then just wait out the effects or get it cured in-game.

I have had similar things to this happen, mainly with armor enchantments in mods I removed while still wearing the armor on my last save. The workaround was to create a plugin where I created an enchantment that cancelled out the original, but the one I specifically remember was an NCR beret variant whose enchantment was already in the vanilla game files. What you're talking about could be trickier, though it's quite possible this could work for you. This simple solution did fix my stats though and got rid of a lingering "effect" under the status tab of my PipBoy.

What are the effects you want to remove?

Actually, here's an update. I think I finally figured it out.

So building off of what we did previously. We took a chem, created new base effects (with the "recover" flag ticked) to push ALL of our stats (SPECIAL points AND skill points) back up to normal so that the negative/plus sign isn't there anymore. Save it as a new plugin. Take the chem in-game, save before it wears off. Edit the mod again in GECK and remove the "Recover" flag from the base effects. Load up your latest save. Wait for your chems to wear off and your stats should be back to normal. Of course, save, then disable the plug-in.

It's a somewhat complex method of fixing this issue, but if anyone finds a simpler way, let me know.

Yes, have a save that you use for testing mods and mod mixes and new mods. Never save while testing a mod over a slot you have any care about. Removing a mod from a save is usually not a good idea, especially if you are doing this with more than one mod. Quite frankly, other things could have happened to this save by doing what you have done. These things might not make themselves known until further down the game. Kind of like termites, the house looks fine until it falls down.

I even have a character that I brewed up with no mods other than the DLCs selected. I went into the console and buffed her up to survive most any mod. I use that for testing any new mods and if needed, always make a new slot for a save.
