Not able to Load saved games after installing Game of the Ye

Hi!

I just finished playing Fallout 3 which was installed on my Xbox360 hard drive. I have all of my saved games on the HDD;I do not usually sign in to Live nor have a gold account. I played all the way through the game and loved my character (who died darn it) and did not want the game to just end, so I bought the Game of the Year addition to get the expansions and play on..

I put in Disc Two and installed all the expansions on the Xbox, that went great and easy - yay.

I put in the Game Disc 1 and when I run the game, I cannot see any of my saved games, I have to start a new game. (!?) Oh dear.

I can see my saved files outside of Fallout, using the XBox settings menu, all of my save files are on disc. But within Fallout I cannot access them.

I played a new character, got outside to Megaton said hello to that dude who always needs some water (he should go loot a mail box or something), at which point I get all sorts of cool notifications that there are new quests, all of the add on content is available.

But I still cannot see any of my old saved games within the Fallout application.

~ I really don't want to play through the entire game again to use it

is there something I missed, since I am not on Live maybe I missed a software update for the Fallout Game?

Is there some trick to telling the Game which directory on the Xbox to use to find my saved files?

many thanks for any helpful comments!

Not being an Xbox user , I really don't know. But it does sound like there is an issue with the game being saved and accessed according to GFWL compared to your old set up. The GOTY addition installs some GFWL software. But it is not up to date for now days. I would try logging into live via that button in the menu ... should be a key that came with your game inside the box ... this is for an xbox live account. Just enter that when it asks , and it should update at that point ... Hope that works for ya .... but im sure someone with better knowledge will happen along eventually.

Thank you - I'll try the logging in to Live - it's a good angle you bring up - maybe something to do with my user account not linking the versions / saved directory ~ I'm no Xbox master but it's a great idea to start investigating software versions that way!

Have you every played Fallout 3 online? Or has it been awhile? It could be your old saves are not patched, or the don't have the last updated patch, if so, that may account for why they don't show up. Play online to rectify that.

Also, it's pretty obvious, but just incase; make sure you haven't gone past the point of no return. It being the BOS all out attack on the purifier. Broken Steel might not kick in if you're already in the midst of the assault.

Thanks folks! This was interesting and I figured it out with some helpful clues from above and other friends. When I installed Fallout originally I was logged into a particular Live account. I had created a new once since 2006 and continued and played the whole game on this new account with no consequences that were apparent.

When I installed the new Game of theYear xBox seems to have lost track of the login ownership/directory of my previous saved files.

To load and see my saved files, I simply logged into the original account/Live user that I used when I installed the original game - and all good, when I launch Fallout with the expansions all installed, I can see all of my old saved files and I cam play my character through new content - yay.

Many thanks and who knows maybe someone else will find this helpful.
Happy Hunting!
