Obviously it didn't make any difference since most people have clearly forgotten who he was and what he did if Ezekiel is to be believed.

it could always been due the fact NCR is petty big now, people who live something 200 miles in Vegas, 120 years later aren't really going to know much about Vault dweller given that they aren't all NCR citizens but I do reckon if you headed into NCR people would know about him, probably even have an holiday for him lol

I think the best bet would be to go with Mr House, just cause he has the biggest chance of success imo, and can also makes you pretty wealthy in the meantime.
I also think in the long-run he'd be the best for the people just down to the amount and range of tehnologies they'd have access to.

I think setting has more to do with that. Only people from the actual NCR and who have been to Shady Sands would know. Obviously, anyone in government would know, they would have seen the statue.

Other towns and the BoS in particular probably have stories or holodiscs that mention him. The BoS takes interest in the CO in FO2 for a reason.

Likewise, the CO prolly also has many tales about him.

I think seeing the statue and knowing the truth are two completely different things, there's nothing implying that the Vault Dweller and his story have been immortalized in holodiscs. Even the Brotherhood of Steel considers him little more than a "mysterious figure" who had dealings with Elder Maxson in the records you can read in Fallout 3.

Anyway I tire of this discussion, so I'm out.

This is just one of the things about Fallout that isn't supposed to be the same for everyone, sort of like a given unknown. Your character is really supposed to be what you want it to, as there is no mention of race or six. Although certain endings do get chosen as canon, the protagonists are always who you want them to be. In the end, is anybody really going to care what the Vault Dweller really looked like?
