1st time playing.. Silly faction question

Post » Sat May 04, 2013 11:40 pm

Ok.. I tried searching the forum, and could not find an exact answer to my question at hand...

I am still learning, and exploring. I found an old mine. The name escapes me at the moment. There were two NCR locked up. I had to kill a few of the Legion in order to set them free. I would like to go into Red Rock and get the Khans to help the NCR. What I'd like to know.. Is it too late to get Papa Khan on my side? The Legion flunky I'd have to kill anyway. But will he talk to me now? Or am I just going to have to clear out the whole place and have the NCR take on the Legion without help??

Thank you all in advance for your help and patience..

The Khans themselves shouldn't care but there's a catch: The Legion frumentarii inside the longhouse might be hostile to you which will make everybody else hostile as well. Have you received the Mark of Caesar yet? When you do, you will be able to interact with Legion again and Papa Khan will talk to you. Wearing Legion armor might help as well.

And if it truly is too late for that and the armor doesn't work, wouldn't it be possible to fix this with a VERY professional assassination of the Frumentarii? You'd want to do it at night. Use a stealthboy, get a silenced weapon (this is important; people WILL still find you even if you're using a stealthboy if your weapons aren't silent) and go for a sneak attack headshot critical. If the kill is clean and only takes one blow, no one will be alerted, then they SHOULD be unhostile if you return in a couple days.

In your Pip-Boy there is a screen which tells you where you stand with each faction.

I think there are still ways to be accepted by The Khans after they dislike you.

If you dont mind spoilers go on YouTube and im sure you can find a nice detailed walkthrough there.

This is true but your reception in the Longhouse might not have anything to do with Khan rep. I was on very good terms with the Khans but they would attack me anyway inside the longhouse just because the Legion hated me.

did the NRC give you a quest to deal with the KAHNS? because it is possible to do the quest, to got papa kahn to side with the NRC ahead of time. but when given the quest, things get messed up. for some reason, it is possible to get the main quest with the kahns without the trigger being active.

I had no idea getting Papa to help was part of a larger quest. I was just wandering around the Wastes and found Red Rock.. I can honestly say I thought about taking everyone out in the camp. No real reason, just seemed like a good challenge. Then I found Jack & Diane.. My skills were high enough to teach him how to make Meds, so I changed my mind. I think I will leave them alone for now.. I want to find other areas..

Next Question..

I have not read any spoilers, or anything about the story. General answers will be fine I understand. I just want to know...

Are the Hover Dam or King stories part of the main Courier story? I am supposed to find the guy that tried to kill me in New Vegas. I am worried that if I do, I might miss some of the other cool stuff. I do not have any of the DLC stories.

Thanks Again!!

I'm beginning to suspect you may be mistaken, as I know Karl has a speech for you if you're an enemy of the Legion.

Tell me...did you have Boone with you?

No, no companions, no faction clothes. When I googled the issue, I found I wasn't the only one. It's just one of those oddities than can pop up from time to time. In my case, I had not received the Mark yet. Afterwards, I had no trouble.

The only real problem I remember having with the Khans faction wise was with the the Khan hold out at Bitter Springs. If you talk him into leaving peacefully and going to Red Rock and then show up there wearing NCR faction armor he will attack you and the others will join in.

That's not actually a bug. The Khans are enemies with the NCR, and if you arrive wearing NCR armor they'll see the armor before they recognize the Courier. The NCR letting the Khans go at Boulder City is a one-time thing.

And don't enter the cave with Boone in tow. There will be dialog at all.

It's been a while since my last NCR Trooper play through so I went back to double check using a fresh toon that hadn't gone past Goodsprings. Wearing NCR Bandoleer armor I was able to go through Red Rock no problem except when I got close to Jerry the Punk and when I entered the dining room with the Legion frumentari. Both those guys agroed and the rest of the Khans near them attacked as well. I tested this both before and after talking the Khans out of the the hostage situation at Boulder City. Even while wearing the NCR armor the Khan Armorer would sell to me if I'd completed the Boulder City quest peacefully.

So most of the Khan's at Red Rock Canyon are indifferent to NCR uniforms except for:

Jerry the Punk (npc near the fight ring at Red Rock Canyon) (he can be removed from Red Rock by completing his quest http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Cry_Me_a_River but will then move to the Mormon Fort)

Oscar Velasco (the Khan holdout at Bitter Springs who will move to Red Rock Canyon if you talk him into leaving Bitter Springs peacefully) and

Karl (the Legion frumentari/ambassador dealing with Papa Khan)

I can't comment on what would happen if I took Boone or any other companions into Red Rock Canyon as I didn't test this.

Barring the guy from the cave, you would be fine as long as you stay out of the longhouse. Even then, Karl is the trouble maker. You get the "Did you know you are traveling with a f___ing murderer?" greeting but no hostility.

Maybe it's a glitch but I'm not the only one who has had it. On the same playthrough, Vulpes and the goons at Nipton attacked me on sight as well.
