Steam Vs. Store

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 3:02 pm

So I want to purchase Morrowind on the PC, for the specific purpose of getting to try all these mods I'm always hearing about.

Will I miss out on anything if I buy it on Steam, as opposed to Amazon?

Thanks!

Depends on which version you plan on buying from Amazon. I have both the original Morrowind release (paper map+manual, Construction Kit data CD and very nice packaging) as well as the Game Of The Year release (paper manual, Construction Kit CD, Morrowind, Bloodmoon, Tribunal but no map).

No need to redownload if you have the CDs. That is the main benefit of buying the "hardware" version of games these days.

I'd go with the CD version, but if Steam is cheaper, then it might be worth going that route instead.

I'll also mention...

Yes... all mods, patches, tools and programs work with the Steam version.

There are a few simple things to do to ensure they work correctly. You can find info on that http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1305729-mod-recommendations-for-new-players/ under the "Info for using mods with Steam version" header.

Oh? I did say the Construction Set data CD (with all the meshes and textures on it) is included if you buy the CD.

Thank you for all of your help. This is going to be a long road for me to figure out, but I look forward to trying!

Could someone elaborate on this?:

"It should be noted that the Morrowind Code Patch and 4GB Patch do not work with the GameStop/Impulse version of the game, so the Steam version is recommended instead."

Just when you buy it at Gamestop?

I'm leaning towards buying it from Amazon, as I know there are a few additional steps to take to get it all up and running when purchased from Steam.

The Steam version is easy enough to deal with. Actually, it's easier in that you can run it in the default directory which is problematic with the disk version. Also, of course, you don't need to have the disk in your drive.

Install the CodePatch (which everyone should have anyway) and papill6n's Construction Set files and that's it.

Thank you very much!

The whole modding thing isn't exactly my strong suit and I very much appreciate your help!
