How best to run Morrowind on a Windows 8 multicore

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 7:29 am

I've recently got a new operating system, and have installed Morrowind with lots of bells and whistles (many mods, MWSE, MGE, MGSO and the like). It runs fine, just a little slow (going to about 6 frames per second when outside). Part of me is wondering whether this is because the game isn't adapted properly to my multicore system. Is there anything I can do about this?

I don't think I can use the +fullproc command in a launch shortcut, as I need to open the launcher through MWSE for MWSE to run (I think). Is there anything else I can do to get the game to fire on all cylinders?

Any help is appreciated!

If you're using MGE XE, then you don't need the MWSE launcher. As for your FPS issues, Morrowind was designed to run on a single core processor, so options are limited. One thing you'll want to use is the 4g patch, but that should have been installed with MGSO. Are you running morrowind.exe in XP SP3 compatibility mode and as an administrator? Both of those settings *might* help.

6FPS? Do you have a video card or on CPU graphics?

If the latter, your going to have to play the game with the Vanilla Shaders, so no MGE and similar. The script extenders should be fine. And, with Thepals texture pack and some others, the game looks fine without MGE.

But isn't there some way to force the game to run on all processors? If the MWSE isn't necessary, then the +fullproc thing might work.

Also, I have a graphics card, so the shaders aren't the issue.

If there is, I've never seen it mentioned.

What are your system specs? You may need to turn the shaders off to increase performance.
