I have the PC version of Oblivion. I need to know how to set the .ini file so that the "LevelUpData_1.txt" file will appear in Oblivion's main directory. I am carrying too many old spells and want to get rid of some of them.

If you're trying to get FormIDs for the spells, to delete, there's an easier way. Save the game using the console:
[SAVE savename 1]
The "1" is important, and must be separated from the filename by a space.
This puts a file named "savename.txt" in your save folder, and that file can be opened with a text editor to get the ID numbers.
Level up Data? I didn′t know you could do that! I mean, I knew it was possible to level up Spock but not Data!
Oh. Ehm...
That is in Fallout. In Oblivion, you can level up both of them, because of magic.
Glarrg is correct, and his method has another advantage - level up text file only shows the spells you had the last time you leveled up, whereas the save game 1 method shows spells at the time of the save.
Hope that helps. Wrye Bash is a wonderful utility that can easily delete spells while not actually playing the game. There are also many mods that allow you to delete spells in game. Digging around on our mods forum or visiting TSNexus can help if interested in these other options.

So bad, it was ... bad.
*throws another one.
To Glarrg : I tried your method and got a .txt file that is over 1m in size. It listed places, characters, etc, but I could not find any reference to spells. Is there anything else I can try?
I hope glarrg doesn't mind me chiming in and his input would be most welcome; however, a recent save text file for my game is 9016kb in size. The document is very long indeed and the Spells section is about 85% of the way scrolling down and a rather small piece of the document - so it is easy to miss.
I think you covered it nicely.
Those files do get large, and I have a bad habit of doing all my saves via the console, and making tons of those text files. And I wonder where all my disk space has gone...
