As far as I know,
As far as I know,
Today, thanks to this thread, I decided to see what would happen if I just ran through a gate for the Sigil Stone. I wasn't naked, but daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, what a difference it makes! Why I never thought of this before is beyond me, because it sure made closing them that much easier!
The Dremora didn't chase me once I entered a tower (odd, I figured they would), but even if they had, I was already riding up an elevator. The only fight I had to do was the final ramp to the stone, which was a couple of dinosaur looking things (Clann, something or the other - not caring what they are other than dead) and two Scamps. The final guardian was cake, and the number of arrows I saved made the dash worth the effort.
The only "hit' I took was from those towers that shoot flame and one mine I inadvertently got too close to (haste makes waste).
Overall, I think I just found my new strategy!
PS: freaking stone was worthless, but I threw it on a ring and sold it for about 200 gold.
This used to be my tactic when playing with OOO and the difficulty cranked up, you can close a gate in minutes
First play-through my avatar committed himself to the Crisis only after having become MadGod and receiving a number of other honorifics. Second (current) play-through, he tacked the Crisis almost at the very beginning, though he also became Divine Crusader right away as he knew he'd need divine assistance to rid the land of Daedric intruders. Of the two options, I find the second far better suited to my role-play style. Much depends, of course, on what you want from your avatar over the long-haul, assuming he or she gives you a say in the matter.

When your athletics and acrobatics is high enough you can outrun most enemies and even jump around most bridge gates. Closing an oblivion gate usually takes me about 5 minutes. About 3 minutes to get to the top floor and then 2 minutes of killing all the mobs in the sigil room. However, if I enter random world 2 I always take Hatreds Soul first (look it up, it's one of the best bows in the game).
Indeed, it's also light for its power, which is a bonus for being a Daedric item.
Sadly, I have no idea what "random world 2" is. I just remember finding it in a previous game.
Still, I have to say, I enjoy making my own custom enchanted bows. I just found an ebony bow last night, and I quickly bought a grand soul gem and put Fire Resistance 100% + 20 pts Fire damage on it.
I swear, vampires see me with this bow and my silver arrows, and they run away. Makes clearing out caves time consuming, chasing them down.
"Random World 2" is the one that the Chorrol oblivion gate connects to. It also appears randomly at gate-spawning locations.
The secret to closing Oblivion gates is;
Kill everything that isn't nailed down or painted. Grab the stone.Try not to soil your armor.
I tend to switch it up, sometimes Ill kill everything, and sometimes Ill use them as my early morning jog, lol.
Closing Oblivion gates can get old pretty fast. At later levels I tend to just collect a bunch of bloodgrass, mix up some chameleon potions and wander through at my leisure. With 100% chameleon you can punch a Dremora in the face and he won't know what's hit him. With a paralyze spell you can steal all his stuff before he hits the ground. It seems a shame to just run through and pass all those fleshy containers; they can hold some good loot.
who said i pass them? lol, i move so fast that the dremoras and daedra are a good 50 paces behind me at all tmes, so i sprint up to containers, rummage through at light speed and move on =D
+1.
Ever since I've been running gates (7 now closed), this has been an enjoyable experience. It's just awesome to 5 finger discount an Oblivion world, then snatch the sigil while maniacally laughing the whole time.
When the gate closes, there are a couple of baddies around, but Ziiiiiiiiiiippppppppppppppppp.
I've got somewhere to go.
