Memai does The Elder Scrolls (art & fics!)

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 2:48 pm

Right, so, I noticed that a lot of folks write and RP a lot here. I don't have a set "fanfic" where there are loads of chapters that follow a single storyline, but I do have plenty of ficlets and drabbles. I also have a lot of art as well Usually in relation to said ficlets and drabbles.

Mind, my works are nothing to absolutely shout about, and they sometimes border on the mundane (though charming). I hope everyone enjoys? Almost all the stories I have written has a little bit of art to go with it, and vice versa. So without anymore delays, have at thee~

First one's a small bit of writing I did for my RP comm, we were asked to write a poignant moment in our character's history, and I thought Alrek (my Breton) attending his father's funeral was fitting. If albeit macabre ahaha...

Thicker Than Water (http://memai-kins.deviantart.com/art/Thicker-than-Water-329448138)

And so they read prayers and sang songs, recited eulogies and cried about the days long past. But the late Lord's children were all huddled at the back of the service.

Lillie, the eldest, beckoned for her two brothers-- Basille; a strong knight, so full of purpose and duty, a man whose strength not only lay in swordplay, but also in valor. She beckoned for Alrek, a studious scholar, always left amazed at the vast wonders of the world, so eager to know everything there was.

When they came before her, she embraced them, and their arms too, enveloped each other.

"Blood is thicker than water," she told them, her tears held back, but her voice cracking, "So please don't fight any more. Promise me, you two."

Alrek and Basille looked to each other-- suddenly the petty arguments meant nothing. Suddenly the frayed kinship between them renewed.

It was Alrek who broke the silence, "I promise."

"As do I."

Mustakettu85 >> Ahhh! Thank you muchly ; w; I've got another bit of writing coming up later. Kinda excited, been a while since I wrote something proper (and one that isn't RP posts).

Kalamari >> I thought your name was a bit familiar! Funny how things find its way back on the internet ?

Right, so I found some more recent TES art I've done but haven't really posted it anywhere else, so, enjoy :3

http://25.media.tumblr.com/04c08058c16a17a72a324289582dad48/tumblr_mk9mjh6X2J1s503zoo1_500.jpg; I don't do a lot of digital painting because I'm a lot more used to the more traditional methods, so getting to do this as practice and have it come out good is a serious pat on the back for me ?

http://24.media.tumblr.com/5f3eff29a5caf2a87cbebae3169beb41/tumblr_mgew6dR3dA1s2ns2qo1_500.jpg; I kind of got really dumb and excited when I was asked to do this. Because I think it's safe to assume most everyone who played Oblivion loved Marty Septim like burning. Bonus; http://25.media.tumblr.com/9e0be3cac69ff53aa0a3d6ee315db878/tumblr_mimk06Krmx1s503zoo1_500.jpg!

Hey look! http://24.media.tumblr.com/e02fc03e04434e582f6f00b4137d3a10/tumblr_mgsr0thLoy1qa1xleo1_500.jpg. This was supposed to be an RP character for someone, but I never followed them much on that particular character. Still an interesting design, and one I'm proud of :3

I have some bits of prose I wanted to share but I think they need to be cleaned up before they're ready for public consumption (I'm a hack writer, really). I fare much better at drabbles than longer stories, but I'll see if I can get some of my bigger works posted up here, assuming I don't break the forums with 'em!

Man, I am loving the look of that Ashlander. But what's with that insane look in his (her?) eyes, and the drooling?

Not familiar with "Debby Does Dallas" though the alliteration is familiar. Suppose I just wanted a title that was the least (most?) obnoxious ahaha

Ah! It's not drool, face paint, rather, but there's only so much detail I can fit in on a full-body picture. The manic, far-off look is intentional though. AFAIK this was supposed to be a rather 'intense' character (I'll let you use your own definition), but the customer seemed more than happy enough with the final result ?

And hey! Speaking of which, I've got a new fic/art/drabble thing I wrote, but first, some background:

When playing through the Imperial Legion's questline in Skyrim, Derpakiin gets picked as an 'auxiliary' member. Which got me to thinking that, should push come to shove, I would imagine the Legion wouldn't be afraid of calling on for help from other provinces, such as employing said auxiliary forces. Knights from High Rock? Warriors from Cyrodiil?

So here's a conversation between my Breton knight, Basille, and Captain Aldis from Solitude :'D

Really? You flatter me muchly uwu Though I always assumed Bretons were always sort of the favorite? At least, I've been criticized for my gratuitous posting of Breton-folk uwu Can't help it though, I've got a burning love for Daggerfall (the game, region and city *dreamy sigh*)

And hopefully not deviating away from topic, you guys are more than welcomed to give me any constructive crits (should you see fit, of course), be it on my writing or art-ing skills :b

RIght, then, some art.

http://25.media.tumblr.com/053a1af9766552259cfc0ed2a367cbd8/tumblr_mkxw8jzGkw1s503zoo1_500.jpg. Because I was reading stuff about women way-back-when who took up arms and did not apologize for their unbridled badassery, I thought, man, I bet the Bretons have a whole bunch of gorgeous women who had great hair and 101 in one handed skills. So here.

And hey, if we're tired of Bretons, http://25.media.tumblr.com/38b231e5d416266c0d1797972aa0bd59/tumblr_ml1nl4uURr1s503zoo1_500.jpg? This is actually part from a project of mine, imaginatively named "Tamrielic Races Illustrated" where I'm going to attempt to draw the different races of Tamriel and what their day-to-day is. Focusing mostly on the 'youth', so here we have a young Redguard lad probably enjoying a routine boat ride a little way too much. Hard not to feel like an adventurer or a swarthy sailor of old when you're out on the seas like that. I almost envy them :b

I'm going to attempt Bosmer next. And we'll see where it takes me from there :3

Memai, I'm in love with your writing and enjoy all of your illustrations. Fantastic work. Think I'll have to consult you for commissions in the future. You have a way of portraying a lot of feeling and emotion in your art.

Edit: Those last two, the Breton Lady Knight and the adventurous Ra Gada youth...amazing

So, there doth the secret lie =) This is why your Bretons are done right. You realise that true Daggerfall fans are very hard to find, these days? And I haven't seen any among fanartists before you...

Her armour... Sensible-yet-pretty armour that does its job and does not threaten to fracture her sternum. I think I worship you now.

Is there any chance of you uploading this (and the Ra Gada kid) to dA? My Tamriel favourites folder is itching...

Ahhh thank you muchly! Martin is one of my favorite character's from Oblivion (though I think that's everyone's claim on him so far), so being able to do art of him was like a dream come true ; w; More so that it turned out amazingly well ?

I always assumed Daggerfall fans were really hard to find, so I just sort of paraded about with it myself :P It was a fantastic bit of game though, I sorely, sorely wish it gets an upgrade graphically or so that it could work on more modern computers-- it has some of he best books in the franchise, I think. But I'm glad to see I'm doing the Bretons justice ? They're underappreciated, I think.

Also, I could never understand boob-plate armor. I always assumed those were some of the most uncomfortable things to ever put on a lady. Besides, who needs to show off ta-ta's when you're busy shoving swords into the gut of your enemy? :P Besides, I always found properly armored women more attractive anyway ;>

I might upload the Breton knight, but the Ra Gada youth is due for some proper lines and nicer coloring ;D It'll be part of a series, after all ?
Oh my goodness ; w; <33 I'd be more than happy to do some commissions for you! I'm glad everyone's enjoying my wee bit of art so far ; w; It does wonders to my confidence ahaha ? So here, have another bit of art AND writing, because I can't stop.
annnnd one more~

Nicely drawn. I ended up stalking looking through more of your art, and eventually read your comic, which is pretty good also. I'm assuming your drawing was done on computer (a graphics tablet?)?

Yes! :3 I used to do a lot of traditional stuff, but ever since moving and college and whatnot, I haven't had the space or money to dabble in painting. So a graphics tablet seemed like the most reasonable move :3

Ahahaha I'm surprised people are still reading and finding that comic ; w; <333 I'm glad you like it!

I always assumed that was a thing you do? :b Well, at least on the boards I've been in-- good manners to respond in your own art thread with... well... more art XD I know I'd much rather see a new post with something new attached to it :3

Ahhh you're much too kind uwu I should've started posting sooner haw haw :V

Oh hey speaking of which I'm feeling rather productive and got this bit finished up; a friend of mine was talking about the various aspects of Bosmeri culture and so, I picked up on her ideas for weddings and ceremonies :3

A Bosmeri wedding, as observed by a guest from Cyrodiil:

I’ve had the pleasure of attending the wedding of one Ilindil and Eradran. I knew the bride’s family quite well, and as weddings were such an important event for the Bosmeri people, I felt honored to have been included.
The bride and groom were casually dressed— at least by Imperial standards. They wore a simple garment, not unlike their day-to-day wear. The bride and groom were painted— Ilindil was painted after spring blossoms, where as Eradran, her groom, was painted as a stag. The meanings behind such a style were lost to me, but I understand that there is some significance.
The ceremony is largely disorganized and noisy. It’s a large celebration, with plenty of food and music. Notably, the wedding isn’t about the bride and groom joining together— rather, it is a joining of family. The women swap stories as they served food and drink. While the men smoke pipes and shared joke.
A very lively festival, indeed. I wish the young bride and her proud groom all the best!
