hi everyone,

standing outside SVS with mercer frey and the door won't open ( KEY REQUIRED ) and MF just stands around doing nothing!.....searched forum, no-one else seems to have this problem...........................is it me or a BUG?????

If you happen to be on PC, you can "manually" unlock the door.

yeah, on PC but can yoo be more specific....looked around the entrance and the immediate area...no chains, no buttons, no levers, no way in. door cannot be picked!!!

If your follower blocks Mercer's way to Snow Veil Sanctum's door, Mercer may stop and not continue to the door. Only Mercer can open the door and hence the followers should be ordered to stay outside of the way to Snow Veil Sanctum

Try this:

• There is an alternative entrance to the northwest that is inaccessible until completely running through the ruin.
• The entrance is locked and is inaccessible prior to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Speaking_With_Silence From UESP.net
• Mercer Frey is the only one who can open the door, so if you can't get the door open try this since your on pc. Click this button on your keyboard ~ then click on door should bring a code up, then type unlock or you can setstage to fix this, hope this helps.

I believe Day_Man is referring to the console... face the door, open the console, click on the door, enter in "unlock". You should get a prompt that says the door was unlocked. It might still say it's locked after leaving the console; just look away from the door and back at it again.

Whether or not doing that would induce further glitches with the quest... I dunno. See if Mercer acts normally again once inside the sanctum.

Mercer is the only one who is able to open the door. You must be able to let him get to the door so if you or someone(or something) is in hjs way he can't unlock it.

the problem does seem to have been my brain!!! as soon as I moved my followers out of the way, Mercer opened the [censored] door!!! in my defense though, it must be said that similar situations have occurred before without issues and so that's why my cortex fused shut.
