Dragonborn is small expansion

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 10:30 pm

The expansion is rather small and cannot be compared with shivering isles or bloodmoon.I ve caught myself many times trying to avoid doing more quests in Dragonborn out of fear that perhaps i will have nothing more to do in Solstheim. While i love some aspects of Dragonborn i think that they could make a better expansion if they had worked on it some weeks more.Dawnguard is more satisying

( for a small expansion).Oddly i am quite sure that the dawnguards main questline is bigger than dragonborns main questline

DG MQ is longer than DB's but there is more to do on Solstheim than with Dawnguard.

Matter of opinion methinks, i spent much more time on dg than db and found and continue to find it more enjoyable but like i say horses for courses, its a matter of opinion since i dont think even hard figures on file size prove anything definitively as its about gameplay

Dragonborn does have the capability for a massive Morrowind mod however.
Most of the old Morrowind landmass is present in the map, even if not viewable due to settings in its entry restricting how much can be viewed on the map.
Those map view settings can be altered.

I do notice that its never been called an expansion by any member of Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios or Zenimax Media, as far as I'm aware.

Besides, I actually think its about on par with Shivering Isles. Perhaps it's main quest isn't as long, but I think it matches up in terms of interesting locations, side quests, NPCs and whatnot.

Same. I have had a good amount of hours on Solstheim alone, and I still have yet to do all of the Black Book quests and such. MQ I did a long time ago.

Dragonborn's MQ is short, but amazingly executed. The pace was great, and that, among other things, reminded me of the way Morrowind's MQ design.

I'm generally disappointed with DLCs, I think they're overpriced due to their limited scope but Dragonborn has impressed me. There are many hours of play, a interesting, if small, world to explore and lots of variation. I like the way it harks back to previous games, for example the Black Books quests remind me of the Daedra realms in Oblivion, something that a lot of early Skyrim players complained Skyrim lacked. They're varied, weird and imaginative, whatever level you play at they contain surprises. The ruins are also varied, not just carbon copies of those in the base game. The only real downside is the ash covered environment, which is "lore" but still makes for a dull world. Of all the Beth DLCs I've bought, this was the best.

Well, I disagree that it is smaller than Bloodmoon, because Solstheim is about the same size. However, Bloodmoon had a much longer main quest, and the building Raven Rock questline, other than that I thought Dragonborn and Bloodmoon were fairly equal.

Bloodmoon is still my favorite DLC.

In terms of content they are about the same. Bloodmoon's main quest just had more trial type quests. Namely restoring the gifts of the All-Maker. Which we did in Dragonborn too, just in a much quicker fashion. Really, the quest count and new items/general content count is about the same.

This is why it's not a huge deal to me (would have liked more background on Miraak still). The Main Quest had a short amount of steps, however considering how long it took me to complete it, it's very comparable to Bloodmoon's actually. Like you said, it was paced well enough that it didn't feel too short either.

DB had more involved quests. I don't count the repeatable "Jobs" for DG as quests. Personally, I like going to new places in a DLC, so DB has that going for it.

Although the mainquest in DB was pretty short I felt more in depth with that dlc than DG.
There was more substance with DB for me.

Dragonborn is a thousand times better than dawnguard. Even if the MQ is small.

A whole new land to explore not to mention the rewards for completing the main quest and the powers from the black books makes it worth it.

My only annoyance is you can't move your family to your house in raven rock.

Compared to shivering isles, yes i feel it is smaller, but it is still 1000x better than dawnguard. Dawnguard was basically just a questline and not many new places to explore. DB adds a whole island.

That's disappointing. But you can get a house in Raven Rock?

Well for what it's worth, it wasn't a new area such as a land mass or anything, but Dawnguard did add some new areas like the Soul Cairn and the Forgotten Vale.

I just went to Solsthiem for the first time tonight. I didn't do a lot yet, but what made me instantly happy was 1.) Hearing music directly from Morrowind playing in the background (and I'm not talking about the Jerrall Mountains song from the Skyrim soundtrack that was remade from Morrowind), 2.) Seeing Sujamma, Flin, and Maitze, 3.) Seeing an NPC in Chitin Armor, and 4.) going into Ancestral Tombs.

I am going to have sooooo much fun with this expansion.

Good to see that after ten years the bar at Bethesda remains firmly riveted in place and unmoving.

Why would it be bigger when it takes place on the same landmass? It should be the same size as Bloodmoon...

Bethesda has done plenty to raise the bar.

Bethesda doesn't have a "bar" nor is it realistic that because 10 years have passed we should have much more than what we got from Morrowind. They do what they think fits. They did a medium and a large expansion for Morrowind, they did a small and quite large DLC for Oblivion, and a medium and large DLC for Skyrim.
