Regarding the lip-sync bug

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 4:10 pm

Hello.

Yesterday I consulted tktk, a modder who's known to mess around with facegen data, and is teamed up with other modders who do so too, kapaer and himka, about this bug.

He told me Himka said "Phoneme and modifier applied-mechanism disappear in BSFaceGenAnimationData(internal data of TESV.exe) since Skyrim 1.9, I guess it's a deliberate change, but I don't know why reason."

A question for the devs, if you're reading this: why did you guys delete these entries? This has obviously caused really bad bugs, and it shows even in the CK, where neither phonemes nor modifiers work anymore in the face animation tab of NPCs, only expressions do. I think not only me, but a lot of other people would like to know if you guys plan on fixing this, because not only does it screw the mfg command people like to use to take screenshots, but it screws up lip-synching and causes NPCs to be unable to close their eyes when going to sleep and such, and that had never happened in previous games.

I wonder why as well. I actually had to go back to a backup of skyrim's 1.8 patch that I had just because I couldn't stand the bugs that 1.9 introduced.

I recently came back to the game and purchased Dragonborn so 1.9 was also installed, for me this is sufficiently immersion-breaking that I've shelved the game again until it is fixed.

The bug is present on a clean install of Skyrim.

Would be nice to see an official acknowledgement of this problem.

It's highly unlikely that they don't know about it, the problem being so obvious but we'll probably never get anything official. I don't see why they wouldn't fix it though.

Seems an obvious and deliberate change, i guess it was their final prank after abandoning the game.

You know what? I sometimes wonder if there could be saboteurs on the team... Just something that crosses my mind every now and then.

That's why there's always a quality check team. Although I really can't see how they didn't notice NPCs were having such problems after compiling and testing the final build...

Even though I get suspicions like these I was told if you have the choice between the conspiracy or the stuff-up pick the stuff-up, 9 out of 10 times you'll be right.

For various reasons I didn't get DB I'm considereing it now but there's no chance I'm going online with steam until this is fixed.

Does anyone know if Bethesda is aware of this issue? Has any game sites picked it up and written about it? That should get things going. Not sure if it's important enough though. But I would say it is if it's an immersion breaker.

How about this headline: "Bethesda done with Skyrim - leaves game full of bugs"

Sorry if I sound negative, I'm really not. :) But you have to stop and wonder how on earth bugs like this can just sail through QA.

I've shelved the game, metaphorically speaking, for now. This bug was in the beta and made its way to the final release. They fixed the eye opening glitch soon after 1.9 went gold, but they did not address the lip syncing issue. Disappointing to say the least.

The eyes open glitch was not that fixed. Before I got back to 1.8, it was back everywhere.

With a QA team like that in your ranks who needs enemies? Let's just be glad their not running a missile defence program.

1.8 I'm not getting the eyes open glitch.

I expect they are having to make a decision on whether or not they are ditching their current Legendary Editions for updated fixed ones. That could be expensive for them.

It's been over a month since I purchased Dragonborn and this issue cropped up.

I would like to play it at some point, sans lip sync bug.

Not like it can't be an update for that version too. Didn't you have to update Oblivion downloading the last patch regardless of the version you had? I don't remember anymore.
