at least as archmage you get recognised and have your personal bedroom with stuff
thieves guild you get extra cut, thieves respect you and even give you money
darkbrotherhood is the most respectful one
companions would join you

but what do we get from becoming the most powerful vampire? some quest and a bloody coffin that is for shared use and this essential npc keep telling us that he want to tear our arms off

I think the only faction that ACTUALLY treats you as a leader is the Dark Brotherhood. Members call you Listener and follow your commands, ect. Every other faction seems to treat you as if you'd just arrived, weather it be the Thieve's Guild, the Companions, ...the list goes on. I was very excited when I was informed that the castle was now under my control, only to find that the very vampire that delivered this message to me is now telling me to go kill things AND is smarting off to me. Umm, is it just me, or should it be the other way around? I just don't see how they couldn't have caught that before production. For role players especially, it really takes away from the game when you hear an underling tell you what to do ect.

I doubt those super ancient vamps would follow someone who is a 10th their age and experience even if you do slay their former leader. Besides why would you even want to lead them? They just sit on their arses all day and feed. What would you even do? Besides becoming the leader of every organization in the province is absurd anyways so having at least 1 that never acknowledges it is good (Dawnguard also does this)

For starters, I'd order them to clean up their damned food. Seriously, it's like a vampiric Computer Science House, minus the tech. It smells like crap, there's junk everywhere, and their manners are utterly atrocious.

Also, the Dawngaurd castle is not a "safe storage" place, which I found out after losing a ton of smithing and alchemy supplies, forcing a reload of a previous save. The info for Dawngaurd said that our character would gain a new "home" after finishing it. I stupidly assumed that it would become a safe place for storing stuff. Sure...you get a nice bedroom, and I think there is only one storage piece of furniture ( I can't remember if it is just a small bedside table or a wardrobe), but after losing all that stuff once, I was afraid to store anything in the bedroom, either. The Dawngaurd castle never gets cleaned up from all the cobwebs, and contiues to be dark and foreboding. One would think that with so many people living in it now that at least one or two people could clean the place up and add some more lighting. Geez...

I haven't played the Vampire questline, but have read here how annoying it is that their castle never gets cleaned up, either. Is there any safe storage in y'all's castle?

I agree that I would gladly spend plenty of gold to fix the place up.

I completely agree with you about this. I would gladly spend good gold to repair/clean up the castle/fort. However, on the vampire side of the story-line, (After the defeat of Harkon) there is the option to repair a destroyed corridor or something along those lines. (And it's free!) Sadly, there isn't such an option for sprucing the place up.
