Hey guys, my wifes Mom bought an anime called Johnny appleseed thinking it was a cartoon. Then she saw it was Rated R and was actually an anime. She was wondering what makes it rated R, and whats it about. I tried to wiki, but didn't find anything specific and didn't feel like digging through a bunch of stuff just to find small tidbits.

Hmm, after more looking, I found something called appleseed, and now she thinks it may just be Appleseed. In which case, n/m ^^

Do you mean http://www.anhymanwsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2532

ANN says:

Objectionable content: Significant (bloody violence and/or swearing and/or nudity)

AFAIK there doesn't seem to be an anime called Johnny Appleseed

I tried looking it up and found the same thing, I might even have it on a dvd somewhere in my stack of random anime I have yet to watch. I think it got good reviews.

Whats more important is, did your mom like it? Is she into anime now!? one of us! one of us!

Death and Rebirth, then End of Evangelion, then Evangelion 1.0, then Evangelion 2.0 (which isn't out yet)

Death and Rebirth is just a compliation of the original series IIRC.

Big fan of Ichigo Mashimaro, I put it in the top tier of Slice of life comedy, along with Azu Dai and Pani Poni Dash!

Been trying to watch this Kekkaishi show on [advlt swim] but I'm not really into it so far. Just seems like there's nothing really going on, and I don't like that the main character shares a voice actor with Edward Elric, especially since FMA Brotherhood comes on right before it. Ah well, maybe I should watch some of the anime I have that I've neglected. Maybe get to watching Fate/Stay Night.

If I'm not mistaken, Death is a summary of the first 24 episodes with some additional scenes not shown in the original run and then Rebirth is basically just the beginning of The End of Evangelion. I only bought the ADV Perfect Collection box set and The End of Evangelion, skipping Death and Rebirth, but if someone can confirm whether or not EoE completely replaces D&R then I may have to go back and buy 'em.

Perhaps it's just not my night, but the Wiki page explaining how the movies fit together confused me more than the show itself. Too many damn remakes and re-releases. :meh:

That's giving it too much credit. It's a glorified, pretentious, self-indulgant clip show.

No. Evangelion 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone is a remake of the the original series. It is part of the Rebuild of Evangelion series. 4 movies in total are planned that will be a complete remake of the series (and hopefully with a more satisfying ending).

Fate/Stay Night is great. Definitely was iffy at first but I enjoyed it. :P

Find somewhere where you can buy the VN instead, the anime adapted what is easily the worst route from the game and replaced the already silly six scenes with even sillier CG Dragon scenes.

Either that or wait/hope that the Unlimited Blade Works film gets licensed (and is good).

No. Evangelion 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone is a remake of the the original series.

Not sure how many people have watched Blood+, but I have been and I think that the story is pretty good thus far. I'm on Part 2, episode 6. Quite a different feel from Dragon Ball, but it's closer to a modern Japanese Anime.

Speaking of Blood+, the Blood: The Last Vampire live-action version comes streaming to Netflix in a few days. I think on the 23rd. I wonder if it will be worth a watch.

The action in Blood: The Last Vampire is good, but I had a hard time making sense of the story.

So along with the other books I bought to keep me entertained on my upcoming cross-country flight, I bought Death Note: Another Note. I'm pretty excited to read it. The Amazon reviews said it was pretty decent, but what has me excited is that http://deathnote.wikia.com/wiki/Beyond_Birthday seems like a really interesting character. Has anyone here read this book? What did you think of it?

Blood: The Last Vampire didn't have much story to it, with it's measly 40-some minutes. The anime Blood+, however, writes almost all of the background and history for the world. The characters are drawn different, voices different, etc in the anime, but a better experience. I'm also watching it with a friend on Xbox Netflix, so having someone to talk about the anime and be interested in it with you is always a plus.

From what I gather, 1-3 are to be remakes of the original series. They have new scenes and characters, yes, but follow the original storyline fairly well. the final movie is supposed to be yet another alternate ending for the series. Still, I don't mean to dissuade anyone from watching Evangelion 1.0: You Are [Not] Alone as it is a great movie, any fan of the series will love it. Can't wait for FUNimation to license and release 2.0 as I expect it to be great too. Hopefully 3.0 and Final will be finished with production fast and likewise fastly licensed.

After my life being threatened by Death Note fangirls (only a slight exaggeration, unfortunately), I've avoided the series like the plague.

Anyway, I think I need some Shakugan no Shana in my diet right now. Maybe I should go down to Mitsuwa and buy some melonpan? I also wanna watch Ergo Proxy, but I don't have it on DVD, FUNimation only offers it dubbed on their website, and I've already spent too much money on anime this month. *sigh* *bumps ergo proxy to #3 on the "to buy" list*

Sengoku Basara S2 added to simulcast list.

Ergo Proxy is great. Although, there is one episode that made my mind explode, due to the difficulty of following what was going on.

It's not Death Note's fault it's character's attract fangirls like flies to honey.

What did you say to them?

Anyway, speaking of Death Note, I watched the first live action Death Note movie yesterday. I was actually pretty surprised at how good it was, for a live action movie anyway. I've got to get around to watching the sequels now. Someone told me that they want to make an "American remake" of Death Note, with Zac Efron as Light. Google'd it and saw they weren't lying. I facepalmed for a while after that...

No, but fangirls have a habit of ruining things. Or making crappy things even worse.

Told them about my distaste for the stylization. Objects flew. Though my favorite experience with an overzealous fan has to be the Naruto fangirl who started yelling at me at Anime Expo 3 years ago all because I was wearing a shirt that said "I'm Ninja" She then proceeded to tell me why I couldn't possibly be a ninja.

Ergo Proxy is something I've been meaning to buy as well.

I saw a few episodes of it at a convention, it is really good. I couldn't buy it for the longest time because it was out of print, but since FUNimation re-released it, I have been meaning to snag it.
