Eh, I don't care either way.

It would be nice if you were able also add some character to them. I can make a follower with the Kit, but with out a lot of time going to them they will be very flat.

You don't get to create your friends in real life, so I vote no.

Though if you're on PC, you already have the capability to create your own uniquely-voiced follower.

What, you mean like build a custom dwarven automaton to help you kill stuff? That would be kinda cool.
