ending war before The Fallen : V

Is it possible to end the war other than doing the treating.. do you NEED to do the treaty can't you just kill a side

Nope - finishing the Civil War allows you to skip the treaty.

You can finish the CW before the Main Quest.

If you do so, you bypass the Peace Treaty.

It doesn't matter. I personally leave the CW after I've done the MQ. The quest Season Unending (Peace Treaty), is one of the best quests in the game IMO.
