What if an Independent Skyrim becomes canon?

Yeah, but before Skyrim was the whole Great War a not so happy ending as well. For everything, to just go to hell and them go to hell even more afterwards would worry me about the plot of the next game having to revolve around this whole Dominion situation even more.

It weakened one under trained Legion of soldiers and an under trained rebellion is what it did. Sure there were damages to two holds but no major loss of life outside of the soliders occured. All the Legions with experience are still there and if the Dominion made a move on Skyrim whether under Imperial control or not would restart the war. I don't think either the Dominion or the Empire are quite ready for that yet otherwise the WGC would not still be active.

They really aren't alike though, just because they tend to be more warrior-like cultures doesn't mean a thing.

I wouldn't like the idea of skyrim being the one to defeat the Thalmor on their own because it wouldn't happen, the Redguards under the Crown have a reason to not like the nords and the Forebears have a reason to not support them, the kingdom of Jehenna and the bretons who live around there also have a reason to hate the nords as do the empire-supporting kingdoms of High Rock. So the Stormcloaks really wouldn't have much of a chance if they went against the Dominion on their own due to limited supply lines, not enough soldiers and they just wouldn't be able too.

I know this? Just saying, if Skyrim took place 200 years after, the same is possible for the next game.

And Cyrodiil lost the Septim Emperor, leading it into disarray in for the past 100 years.

Agreed. Maybe not as something as catastrophic as REd Mountain exploding. But something is going to happen. I have a feeling this might come to fruition: http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Falmer:_A_Study

A Falmer attack would effectively render the Civil war's canon victory... irrelevant. Forced to deal with this threat leaves just Hammerfell and High Rock somewhat combat ready.

In other words... The Dominion is not going down so soon.
