Whats a God to a Non believer?

Post » Tue May 07, 2013 1:39 pm

In Skyrim i noticed that with out a champion, cult, emissary, summoner, etc none of the daedric lords have the ability to interact with the mortal plane on any tangible level.

So the question is, if the citizens of tamriel decided to not interact with the daedra princes... would they be powerless?

Also, why does talos not just own the high elves?

They wouldn't be powerless. Maybe unable to interact with the mortal world, but not powerless.

but their power would be meaningless. they would have no new souls, no new followers.

I believe that applies more toward the Aedra.

Better example would be Clavicus Vile. By the time the Dragonborn met him, he had pretty much lost all his followers; he was only slightly stronger than the Dragonborn, and couldn't manefist far from his shrines.

A fireball to the face can still kill. You'd be surprized at how much people are going to cooperate if the screws are put to them, so to speak. Look at the Molag Bal quest. He basically had the rival priest beaten into serving him. Granted, it wasn't him... but he could probably get the same thing done by sending down a Daedroth.

Actually, if everyone stopped worshiping Daedric Princes and, over time, they were forgotten about, then the Princes would cease to exist.

Meaningless to Tamriel, but not meaningless in the scheme of things.

I don't think they would actually stop existing, rather, for all intents and purposes they would not exist to average Joe on Nirn.

yes a fire ball to the face can hurt, if it exists in the same plane as you

you were molags champion, you beat his priest into submission, u grabbed the mace leading to ur original imprisonment.

if the world simply ignored the daedra they would no longer have true power.

That's the seductive nature of the Daedra, they know this, and that is why they grant artifacts/rewards to those that help them or worship them.

Sanguine and Sheogorath likely wouldn't give two septims worth a damn. They seem to be able to visit every now and then.

The dead gods(Aedra) on the other hand...

I thought the reason why Vile was so weak was because he kicked Barbas out, and had nothing to do with a decline in followers.

I'm somewhat confident that the "worshipers=power" thing only applies to the Aedra, and not the Daedra.

The less people going to the Daedra, the more rewards one person can get, and there is always going to be that one guy greedy of power over all else who is going to go for it.

Where are people getting this crap about Daedra ceasing to exist if no one worships them? That only applies to the et' ada who sacrificed themselves in the creation process. They're the ones who need worship if anything.

There's a reason the Daedra refused to participate in the creation of Nirn. They will continue to benefit from it.

That seems to only apply to the Aedra. It's practically impossible to remove behaviours, ideals and ideas though anyways.

Well, it's a downward spiral. Without Barbas to control his impulses, he alinated his followers. Without followers to grant him power, he got more erratic, causing more followers to be alienated, etc.

Hmm no, I don't think so.

I mean, Jyggalag worship is virtually unexistant in Tamriel, yet we do know he's out and about rebuilding his plane.
In fact, I don't think mortals outside of the Shivering Isles are even aware he exists.

I'm hoping by the next game we'll begin to see some of his influence on Nirn.

Thing with Jyggy is that he has no real reason to manifest on Nirn (a place of much Sheogorath), unless it's to conquer it in lifeless order.

Praise Jyggalag!

Only he Aedra cannot interact with mortal inside Mundus in any physical way. The Aedra that created Mundus are nothing more than thoughts at this point so they can only indirectly interact with mortals. Some Deadra can do both regardless if is a summoner or not.

While I know they are "dead" gods and subject to mythopoeia, I think it's not necessarily fair to call them "nothing more than thoughts".

They still manifest themselves in divine avatars and their spheres are active. Plus they still got their own planets.
