Playing an Altmer who opposes the Dominion?

Post » Wed May 08, 2013 6:55 am

Hi, Im planning on making an Altmer character because I like the looks of the race, and I admire their height and skills with magic.

The only thing I dont like is that it seems a majority of Altmer are allied with the Aldmeri Dominion, and wish to conquer all of Tamriel, something I am strictly against.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how I could play such a character. Especially if I were to play an Altmer in ESO.

That would mean your Altmer isn't messed up in the mind. Go for it.

Actually, the Thalmor are only the ruling party of Summerset Isles. Speak to the handful of High Elves who aren't associated with the Thalmor, and you'll see that it's likely MOST do not share the same beliefs as the Thalmor. Remember; in Skyrim there's a heavy Thalmor presences (unless the Stormcloaks with the Civil War.) So, naturally, most Altmer in SKYRIM will support the Dominion.

Also, the ESO Dominion isn't the same as the Dominon in Skyrim.

If I remember right, the Altmer have been 'purging' Alinor for Altmer who have any non-Altmer in their ancestry, so there's that. Also Runil in Falkreath opposes (or at the very least does not support) the Dominion, so it's entirely acceptable.

The Dominion is just a political power, not a cultural group or anything that would dictate people of a race support them.

If you're not opposed to being a vampire, there's a great build called The Nemesis you might be interested in:

Not all Altmer are insane and set on domination. Only reason the majority support the Dominion in Skyrim is because the Dominion holds a heavy presence there.

The majority of Altmer are actually against the Dominion.

From http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Legate_Fasendil

Sounds like you've seen you're fare share of hardship.
"The life of a soldier is full of hardship, that's nothing, but they send the Legion to places that have become too bad to be settled with out violence. What's hard is seeing people warped by evil, and I've seen the face of evil, it was in the air above Sentinel on the night of Green Fire."

What happened on Green Fire?
"Back in 42 in was on leave stationed in Hammerfell on leave in Sentinel trying to track down refugee family members who were trying to escape persecution in Alinor. Suddenly, an explosion of magic in the refugee quarter. Thalmor mages were attacking Altmer dissidence, who were resisting with magic of their own. I ran with some other legionaries who were stationed there, but the entire quarter was a smoking ruin by the time we got there, everyone was dead, wholesale slaughter. The Dominion, not content with killing dissidence of their own back home, came to Hammerfell to finish the job. We're supposedly at peace now, but I put in to be stationed here to keep an eye on the Thalmor, I have a feeling they're behind this unrest here in Skyrim."

It'd make perfect sense

I'll be making an Altmer mage soon, and I'll be roleplaying that he was but a farmer/peasant in Summerset.

Thanks for the clarifying responses. I didnt know too much about the Altmer I guess. itll be fairly easy then to make a story for my new Altmer.

I probably should have made a post in the ESO boards, as playing a non-domination altmer in that game seems almost impossible.

The Dominion itself isn't necessarily bad, just the ruling party in charge, the Thalmor.

Actually the Dominion isn't anything as it is just the name for the group of provinces that contains Elswyr, Summerset Isles, and Valenwood. You mean the Thalmor which are the ruling party. Then yes many Altmer are opposed to the Thalmor. Not so many oppose the Aldmeri Dominion.
