The clan was first formed after Alessia fused the Nord pantheon of gods with the Aldmeri around 1E242. Jorgun Snowborn still held The Old Ways of worshipping animal gods in high regard and he and his brethren decided they wanted nothing to do with the Eight Divines.
Jorgun led his people to an island where they build their homes just off the shore near Ysgramor’s Tomb, in between Dawnstar and Winterhold. This northern region of Skyrim is a harsh and unforgiving environment, they mainly lived of fishing or nautical trading with their fleet.
The Snowborn clan lived peacefully for many years. They were able to withhold themselves from battle even with the civil war and the Pact of Chieftains in 1E420. Olaf One-Eye was declared High King of the Nords and was displeased with Clan Snowborn’s attitude towards battle.
In 1E435 he waged battle against the clan and there was nothing they could do. Snowborn Village was destroyed and their chieftain Sigurd Snowborn was slain in battle. Sigurd’s son, Wulf Snowborn, was given a choice: pledge allegiance to the High King of Skyrim and aid the Empire in future battles or Sovngarde. Wulf chose life.
The clan rebuild their home and recuperated after their defeat by Olaf One-Eye. The men left their homes to fight for the good of the realm around 1E700 when the Nords wanted to reconquer the land of Morrowind. They failed and many Snowborn were slaughtered once again in battle by Chimer and Dunmer forces. Guri, the chieftain at the time, went back home and took less then 10 other surviving Snowborn with him.
Once again the Snowborn were tasked with rebuilding their clan. Late in the First era, there was an Akaviri invasion in Tamriel. The Nords were no match for the Akaviri Dragonguard, many Snowborn got killed once again and Snowborn Village got razed. The remaining warriors fled to Cyrodiil where they fought alongside other races in the Battle of Pale Pass against the Akaviri invaders.
The Nords, including the remaining Snowborn, pledged allegiance to Reman Cyrodiil, founder of the Second Empire of Men.
The Snowborn Clan was tasked by Reman to guard the mountainpassage known as Pale Pass leading from Skyrim to Cyrodiil. Honor bound they obeyed and rebuild their tribe up in the harsh, snowy mountains of south Skyrim defending the pass.
After years of loyal service, their task was lifted by Reman III, they still honored it and kept on living excluded from most civilization. Through time they became experts of the mountains and the use of snow, their fighting style evolved and turned savage, barbaric even. They were able to produce wolf or bird sounds to scare unwanted adventurers or as a method of communication with several scouts that watched the pass daily. People described them as soldiers who turned to madmen, beasts. The Ghosts of Pale Pass.
When the Akaviri landed once again in Skyrim under command of Ada’Soom Dir-Kamal, the Snowborn chieftain Clay Snowborn decided it was time to pick up arms and join the forces of Jorunn the Skald-King in 2E572.
Clay died during the battle with the Akaviri invaders, passing the torch to his only son Kharn. Kharn pledged the allegiance of the Snowborn clan to Jorgunn who recently got crowned High King of Skyrim having defeated the Akaviri forces.
Years went by and when Molag Bal begins to pull Nirn into Coldharbour in 2E578, three alliances battle for control of the Imperial City and the White-Gold Tower. The Nords have allied themselves with the Dunmer and Argonians. Jorgunn, The High King, has asked Kharn and his Snowborn to aid him in his quest for the White-Gold Tower.
