Bounty Randomly Increasing : IV

Just when I thought I had a perfectly stable Oblivion setup...

For some reason my bounty randomly increases, and my infamy alongside it. I can't seem to pinpoint any specific action that causes it to rise - only the passage of time (real time, since sleeping and fast travel don't make it increase any faster). I've found two other threads online that report an identical issue, though neither managed to really solve the issue, and the mods they guessed that were causing the issue were different for each poster, and I don't use any of them.

This has only started happening to me very recently, and the most recent alteration I made to my game was reloading "Duke Patrick's Melee Combat NO RECOIL" mod. I disabled the mod, saved my game without it enabled, then re-enabled the mod with a few changes, and played on from there. I know it doesn't alter crime in any way, but I'm wondering if it's caused issues because it's a script heavy mod?

Never remove a mod from a save slot, then put it back on. Bad mojo for doing that.

There is a way to do this, but it involves cleaning your save in between taking the mod off and putting it back on. There are threads in this section on how to make a Clean Save.

Me, I use a save that I created on the Vanilla game, that has no mods on it, for testing and tweaking mods. And, I never ever save over that slot. This way I don't have to worry about cleaning my saves or orphan mod sludge.

So chances are, that save file is now corrupt? Ahhhhh.

I'll test with a new character and see if I still get the bounty bug.
