How do you deal with misc quests?

Post » Fri May 10, 2013 7:33 am

Unless you're not chatting to the townspeople, you'll get a whole lot of misc quests. How do you usually go about doing it?

Do you do the quest immediately (if possible) or just let the quests stack up?

Also, do you have certain towns you "complete" first (like completing all of the quests in whiterun before moving on) or do you just run around getting loads of quests :D

Even though i've been avoiding towns that i don't want to do the quests in, i still get lots of random misc objectives (some peryite shrine thing, as well as azura's quest and all that. Also that stupid go to the college of winterhold objective, when my character isnt a mage).

I tend to let them build up a bit, then work on them as I go along. Every so often, I'll make all of them active, and check the map for "clusters" or a route I can take through several of them on the way to a primary quest objective. I find that they are more manageable this way than trying to chase them across the map.

Some of my characters are "roaming townies" that clear all quests for a certain town before moving on. Others don't stick around that long, but may come back later. Still others are happy to ignore quests from towns they don't particularly like.

I rarely bother with them. So as you can imagine I always have a mess of random quests that I have no idea where they came from.

Honestly, I haven't even gotten the trophy/achievement for completing misc quests. I think it's 10 or 15 you need to do to unlock it? Yeah. That's how bad I am.

I'll let the quests stack up, until a story arc puts me in their vicinity. Then I'll clean 'em out as I go and turn 'em in if I happen to be in the right town.

I run an NPC No Greetings mod now. Unless I talk to an NPC, they are not talking to me. It helps keep down the Misc Quest clutter.

However, if I get stuck with a Misc Quest, it waits until I am ready to do it. I figure if the NPC waited around for some one else to do something, then they can wait for me to get around to it.

I do them when the misc quest is convenient for me to do it. That said, some I knock out right away, others I never get to. Just depends on the character.

When you roleplay, accumulating misc quests is a non-issue. Learn to roleplay.

I dont like to let them stack up, maybe I have a slight case of OCD. But usually if Im' going to do a main quest part or another major quest, I'll usually check the smaller side quests and see if they're anywhere near where I have to go for my primary quests. Knock out two birds with one stone.

I operate off a sense of legitimate urgency. If someone has a valid claim / need that I feel it would be rude of me - as someone trying to do good - to make them wait. If it's just generic hey go get this stuff I'll wait a bit and let them stack so I can do one efficient loop of dungeon crawls. Whiterun is a pretty classic example, if you get a "Go kill the guys" quest from the Companions, Bounty Quest, Amren's Sword, and In My Time of Need going all at once there's a remarkably good chance that the places you'll need to go will form a convenient crescent shape.

The only time I don't do the all-in-one Whiterun loop is if I get sent to Halted Stream Mine because there's no way I'm leaving behind a single lump of iron.

If I come across one, I will let it build up in my journal. Even if I know where to get one from previous playthroughs, I still get it but don't do it right away. I just work my way into different quests when I feel like it, but I avoid the ones that tend to be forced into the journal such as radiant quests.

I never thought about doing that with the quest markers! Great idea! i don't like to have too long a list of open quests.

I ignore them and rarely do them. It took me almost a year to get 10 done.
