What will be your "morality" when you select team?

Post » Thu Apr 08, 2010 2:30 pm

(I will select the "Security", a variety of reasons. It's just a game, but it might be fun to have a thought behind the war.)

The Ark, I think, is Earth's utopia. A place where science, beauty and happiness are on top. Then came the refugees, which was no problem. They needed a place to live, survive. We, we who created "The Ark", opened our hearts and homes.

Now they demand too much. They think we have unlimited resources.

The fact that we withhold those supplies is a lie.

Our security was designed to take care of criminals, not terrorists.

Sure, we may have been harsh. But these freedom fighters spilled the first blood. I think they made war, not those who lived on the Ark from the beginning. Now we just defending ourself.

(All this should only be considered as in-game morality, not my real morality. Just something fun to talk about before the game comes.)

I will be selecting the Resistance.

I am for the Resistance because it doesnt matter who was here 'first' this is about equality of life. We demand an equal distribution of goods. We do not demand too much, we simply demand a fair share. No one can tell me that my life is less important or less deserving of life because Im a refugee.

I'm a mercenary. I fight for either side depending on what I want to do.

I am the Resistance. I fight for those who are too weak to fight. I fight for those who weren't born with a gold spoon in their mouth. I fight for equality, fair supply, and freedom from oppression.
LONG LIVE THE RESISTANCE!!!!!!

You do know this had been discussed in detail many times.

All you need to know that neither side is right or wrong.

I think this is mostly a thread for people who want to spout one-liners and say they have some conviction about one side or the other even though no one knows the complete story yet.
...We haven't had one of those yet.

I don't believe this thread is even meant for announcing anyone's conviction. More likely it is meant to be a reservoir for "invented" motivations for use in developing a bit of depth to our in game characters. I think it could be a fascinating thread.

My Security character would probably be motivated by disdain for chaos and "social justice". He might feel a tinge of hatred for those who would demand what is not theirs and was likewise not earned. He could be a believer in the "system" as long as that system remains uncorrupted by greed and power mongers. In the end, he likely follows his core principles wherever they may lead. . . even to the other side if necessary.

The definition of conviction is "a fixed or firm belief". Beliefs are basically the root of strong motivation. Since the first few posts were basically role playing, it would in fact be the beliefs of the character. I stand by my use of the word.

I thought this thread was mainly for roleplayers, not the people how answer every thread.
However, I find it a little hard to do (forum-)RP for BRINK, because after all in the game I have to support both sides sooner or later.

If I had to chose one side, though, it would be the Security.

"The ARK was a great concept and would have worked perfectly if there were
only the 5000 people which were supposed to live on it. However, other people
who didn't understand the concept of the ARK (or didn't want to), came here as
well and now they demand equality for everyone. They refuse to accept the fact
their presence is cause of situation."

Come to think, the quote from my signature would be, what I'd tell the Resistance's motto to be. ;)

I wasn't concerned with definitions. You stated you thought this thread may be used for people to speak about their own convictions regarding some aspect of what is known of the game's story. My point was that I thought it was meant to convey the convictions (or motivations, whatever) of the character they will be using, not their own personal convictions as potrayed through a character back story.

As the developers have said, why not have the good guys fighting the good guys. Because no one in this world really says "I'm a badass, I'm going to take over this world." And the way they've made both sides works for me; for a good cause but still against each other. I'll be playing as both sides.

What are you talking about? "I am evil, I oppress, that's basically all I do."

I don't like killing, I just joined the Security to keep the peace. The Resistance members aren't helping anyone by threatening our way of life. Things may not be equal or fair, but they should approach the situation in a better manner, using destruction as a tool will doom us all.

- When playing by myself, I will choose the team that is losing or has less players.
- When playing with friends, we will probably just join a team.
