No one likes me...

Post » Mon May 13, 2013 3:10 pm

Not me, but the Dovakiin! :D

Coming from Oblivion which was all cheerful, bright and happy, Skyrim feels like a really nasty place. Most, if not all, the NPC's in skyrim seem really grumpy or rude, or regard you indifferently.

Take the first town you come across as an example, Riverwood is apparently 'agreeable' enough for some, but to an outsider the children say they can beat you up, the men are drunk and the women are very snide. It's legitimately hard to find someone who likes you, unless of course you do some menial tasks for them.

Do you think it was a design choice to make everyone grumpy? Do you think it adds to the 'ruggedness' of skyrim?

Why would hard working folk like a complete and utter stranger who they've never seen before?

I think that's the point when it's a cold frigid province that part of the population feels under control by another group. It's not Hawaii. You're not getting a necklace of flowers when you land. :P

and why would they dislike them? even in these times, you still treat strangers with a certain amount of respect.

It is a civil war on, the Great War happened less than a lifetime ago and now apparently dragons are back. Unstable times usually means some loss of hospitality. And that is not exactly benefiting from people being arrested, tortured and killed for worshiping Talos(which most people in Skyrim do). Honestly, with the Oblivion Crisis, I find it hard to believe that the people of Cyrodiil was that open in Oblivion.

Morrowind was amazing, it was awesome when Ordinators would treat me like royalty instead of "keep moving scum" after becoming Nerevarine or Patriarch of the Tribunal Temple, and the legionnaires would salute and praise me (in my mind they did) as the Knight of the Imperial dragon and let's not forget about becoming the leader of a great house.

Stop upholding the Morrowind fan stereo type :P

The less interaction NPC's want to have with you means the less NPC interaction has to be written.

No one likes you because you're a milk-drinker.

Skyrim has a strict zero-tolerance milk-drinker policy.

Then again, what's the point of helping out people if they're being pricks to you? Let them burn, instead.

I was just thinking of all the Nords in Skyrim who curse at you and call you milk-drinker..

I take it there is a common prejudice against those who drink milk.
