(help) tried converting armor from oblivion

Post » Thu Apr 08, 2010 11:39 am

so i'm converting some armor from oblivion (fan made) the note pad says i can do what ever want from with it but i'm gonna ask him if can use it in morrowind anyway. so i followed a guide (revegous' technique) i've deleted every thing other that the mesh in blender is this right? (there where some floating lines with balls on the end.

right i just looked and the armor that there is for morrowind seems to have a skeleton in called a bi, am i right? so i'm gonna look for a tutorial on what that is but is there anything else i must do or not do? please help and dont knock my noob powers (this is all to learn)

EDIT: looked for over half an hour but could find any tutorials to.

PS: the armor isn't appearing on people but it can be dragged from the body parts tab in to the render window.

EDIT:
PSS: i cant find any armor making tutorials either!!! ROAR. it might be help if i can find one of them to so i can understand what a biped object is

You should send Bahamut a PM, or wait for him to respond to this thread. He has good knowledge on converting armors :)

i just really need to figure out what a the skeleton thats on morrowind armor nifs is and remake it for oblivion armor nifs (as far as i know i might be wrong)

Are you using Blender or 3dsmax? I don't know of any armor making tutorials for Blender, but here are a few for 3dsmax:
http://www.ageinc.com/Morrowind/Thanos_Tower/Download/making_armor.pdf
http://mantodea.tygirwulf.com/tutorials/physique.html
http://www.psychodogstudios.com/betterbodies/vw_tutorial.pdf
All these tutorials explain how to create body parts that are rigged to the biped model, ie that bend and animate, using 3dsmax and the physique modifier. Now if you are not using 3dsmax 3, 4 or 5, you can't use the official nif exporter released by bethesda, which means you can't use the physique modifier since that's the only exporter that supports it (as far as I know). If you use 3dsmax 6 or more recent versions, you'll want to use the skin modifier instead, that the niftools nif exporter can work with. 3dsmax5 is the best because it can use both the official and the niftools exporters, which means you get to choose what modifier you'd like to use.
i just really need to figure out what a the skeleton thats on morrowind armor nifs is and remake it for oblivion armor nifs (as far as i know i might be wrong)

If you are using Blender then I don't think there are tutorials designed specifically for what you want to do, but reading the tutorials for 3dsmax wil give you an understanding of how armors nifs work in morrowind. Basically you have to keep in mind that there is a naming convention that is important to follow and you have to link your body parts to Bip01. Also be careful with pivots.

Hope this helps!

I'm using blender but i'll read them any way just to learn, thanks for that thou. i think all i reall need to do is understand biped stuff and all that cos as far as i see how i should be doing this is:

use reavengous techniquie

in blender deleting those little lines (possile the biped type thing they use for oblivion???) and then adding the meshes to a biped skeleton thing?? as far as i can see this might work :celebration: but maybe not :violin:
