Which would be your favourite race if...

...you could only choose perks that the race is proficient in (i.e. has a starting +5 or +10 skill in).

Mine would be Imperial - as you could have sword and board with some nice enchanted heavy armour, but could still use destruction and restoration for support!

Khajiit

It has bows and one handed for variety. Sneak so I can slit throats. Lockpicking to be a treasure hunter and pickpocketing to be a thief.

First I want to say I would love something like this since it would actually add some distinction back to the races so they are not all so vanilla.

I would pick Nord since I seldom ever use magic anyway.

Out of interest, would you use One Handed, Two Handed or both as a Nord?

Still Bosmer. On my first character I only perked her racial skills anyway, so it wouldn't change a thing.

Khajiit are a bit problematic with this setup. They have one-handed, but no defensive skill - very risky build if you decide to engage in melee combat. It could work for a careful assasin though.

I could only play Imperial (isn't it about time they started calling then Cyrodiilics now the Empire is a shadow of it's former self?), Altmer, Argonian or Breton, as I couldn't do without my beloved Restoration school. So it's still Altmer. Breton speechcraft boost is right up my street, but all things considered their lack of Destruction puts paid to that idea.

Bosmer archer all the way. :-)

The only thing I'd miss is smithing because without it I'd have to use a stronger, but slower, bow. Michi and I love our smithed long bow.

Still Dunmer. They combine nearly all my favourite skills, and you don't need perks to take down the last enemy with a poisoned arrow or blade.

Orc, since I most enjoy playing Heavy Armor + 2h builds.

Never actually played Orc, and I never will. I despise green fantasy orcs, no matter how "unique" they may be.

First thought Nord would be my choice but then I checked and found out that Nords specialize in Light Armor, not Heavy.

Even in oblivion and morrowind, all races can be anything with the right doomstones and birth sign. The one thing I like about skyrim over the other two is the fact that any race can be anything, and you dont have to stick to stereotypes.

We dont have a weapon skill in Skyrim. The only offensive skill we have is Destruction.

But then again, with illusion and alchemy, there's no need to perk a weapon skill.

Yes but with little real role-playing options and no replay value at all. I personally wish Skyrim had a whole lot more race distinction in skills, abilities, factions, NPC interactions, etc. Skyrim is just so vanilla.

Would still be Argonian. Being able to swim under water without drowning. Also histskin has saved me in a tight spot, more than a few times :)
