Iron better than Daedric armor?

Post » Tue May 14, 2013 4:06 am

Im confused, I Just opened up the skyforge in Windrun ability to create Daedric armor but when I go to create it i noticed that the armor rating for the chestplate under daedric is lower than the the Iron chestplate. This doesn't make sense to me since the Daedric is supposed to be one of the best armors in the game. Can someone explain to me why Daedric is so good when the armor rating values are so low especially compared to armor thats available from the beginning? I must be missing something here

When you're first making (or enchanting) a piece of gear, it's showing the base armour (or damage) of that gear. What you have in your inventory is adjusted for your perks.

So your Iron Armour, with your Heavy Armour skill, Juggernaut, etc, is better than a base Daedric armour; but once you've made the Daedric armour, you'll find it suddenly better than expected.

thanks for the response, but thats actually not what I meant. If i am on the smithing menu where I choose what I want to forge, if look at the menu for Iron items and highlight the Iron chestplate the armor value is higher than when i go to the Daedric menu and highlight the chestplate armor in that section. I am not comparing armor values to those I have in my inventory, im comparing values that I see when I am in the Smithing menus.

I don't have the specific numbers on hand, I can get them later but from what I remember the Iron was somewhere in the 80's and the Daedric was around 60 or so I believe.

Skyforge gives you the ability to forge Daedric?

All forges do.

And plus, it doesn't matter since any armor can reach the cap of 567.

The Skyforge allows you to smith Ancient Nord Armor, which for some reason falls under the category Daedric and offers the same base protection as iron. Is that what you're looking at?

Yes thats what Im looking at, and based on your response I'm guessing that the armor listed under Daedric in the skyforge is not really Daedric armor? I thought it was wierd that it was called something other than Daedric but I didn't think much of it.

For some odd reason, Ancient Nord Armor, which looks like the armor that Draugr and ancient ghosts appear to wear, falls under Daedric at the Skyforge (the only place it can be smithed) after completing the Companions questline, although it's not actually Daedric armor. Actual Daedric armor is black, spiky, and requires Daedra Hearts, Ebony, and the Daedric Smithing perk.
