"Destruction magic is totally fine...

Post » Fri May 17, 2013 2:45 am

I want to be clear...

I'm not trying to sound like a Destruction cheerleader. TBH, I think it sux skeever tail, for the most part. The lack of spellcrafting was a big kick in the magical dirty bags.

However, when words like impossible get thrown around, we need to look at the numbers a little closer. Then the application of support skills. As a package, Destruction is rather viable.

The thing is, to focus on leveling Destruction first. A character that hits a skill of 100 before level 20 or so, is a bad MOFO. It's when a player continues to level a character that it does get away from them without a strong support.

EDIT : Just a note... I'm sorry. I cannot respectfully respond directly to a post that uses the word... toon.

I don't currently and have rarely ever used smithing to "complement" my Melee skills and Archery. I don't use Skill boosting potions as that's five kinds of stupid to me, always has been. I poison my weps from time to time, but that's for debuffing spell casters and keeping heavy hitters down while I take out the light fluff or haul ass. you can totally rely on the combat skills in of themselves without relying on smithing...its been done for over 10 years now, it didn't suddenly change because most of you folks got svcked in to this back--end up mechanic, enchanting is a different fish, again 10 years now nothing new.

one shouldn't need to spam medicinal herbs and hallucinogens just to increase destructive power, when said mage is at their prime and top of their class.

and seriously was there truly need for this topic once again? the OP clearly just wanted to start another fling session.

Destruction magic works fine complimented with another skill like alchemy or enchanting or something. At higher levels it does get difficult being a pure destruction person.

I absolutely love magic in Skyrim, much better than Oblivion, and much more dynamic and engaging than Morrowind. You can do so much more that was never remotely possible before with the old system. I don't miss Spellmaking in even the slightest little bit. What we got far outweighs Spellmaking.

But, Skyrim's system is certainly a system of unfulfilled potential. There is so much more than can be done with it. Skyrim's magic system that taps its full potential will blow Morrowind and Oblivion out of the water. And it doesn't even need Spellmaking.

It is such a grind to hit level 100 in Destruction, even with enchanted gear and using fortify destruction potions (reaching 148% more damage for 60 seconds yes legit in alchemy).

Problem is, one is always switching between fire, frost and shock spells constantly due to the enemy(ies).

What's wrong with Adept difficulty? If you're finding the game too difficult, logic suggest that you, y'know, ought to turn the difficulty down.

But no, I use impact only occasionally and have only the reduction available through in-game items. No enchanting.

The secret is to use the other spells avaliable, rather than trying to make do with only a fifth of them. It's advisable to use another school, just as it's advisable to wear armour while wielding a battleaxe.

mmmmmmmm yes and no, you get to find more weapons and armour (enchanted and non enchanted) through out the world, chests and dungeons. I recall my level 21 warrior with level 30 smithing finding a glass battleaxe in a chest. Never have i found a really, and i mean really, good enchanted robe or mage oriented apparel (like increase magicka 50+ points or ring of immanent destruction 25%) till my character was level 50 or so.

Yes, random loot is random loot, but i just found much better weapons and armor with low smithing skills, than finding good mage oriented things with the same skill levels.
