"Techy genius to play a game these days", hmm I think you've got it backwards because the user-friendlyness of PC game installations has become a lot better over time, the knowledge required to troubleshoot the average PC game today is nothing compared to how much you needed to know back during 1999-2008.

No, the main issue here is that you picked the wrong platform if you wanted a super-simplified experience. And PC games these days ARE extremely simplified, the only difference is knowing what to do when something goes wrong.

Sorry if I come off as a douchebag PC elitist but I'm actually giving consoles a compliment, because they allow you to just buy the game and play it...which is what you're after. Skyrim, Crysis 3, etc are all available on consoles.

If you're really wanting to get it working on your laptop then you need to try downloading the latest drivers for your GPU. Just google "AMD drivers" and find the ones for your specific model on the official site.

Your ati mobility 550v/hd runs DX10.1. That's your problem.

Well crap, I thought you were one of those peeps who had a DX11 card but couldn't get the game to install...serves me for not looking up your card, sorry :(

In that case your laptop trips over the very first hurdle, no DX11 = no Crysis 3.

And before you ask, no laptop graphics can't be upgraded :(

So that leaves 3 options:
> Buy a console
> Build (or buy) a desktop gaming PC with a DX11 GPU
> Skip Crysis 3 :P
