MasterParticleSystem Node update issue

I have created a small modification called Smoking Torches that - well - adds smoke particle effect to the torches.

The particle system is introduced to the torch via an add-on node. However, I'm struggling with an intermittent issue that I can't pinpoint the reason for. Occasionally when crouching, the add-on node gets duplicated, and the engine renders two particle emitters, one correctly coinciding with the crouching pose, and the other matching the original standing pose. The reason why the bug has been so hard to track down is that it doesn't happen all the time, only occasionally, and I haven't been able to make up any pattern as to why.

Any ideas, anyone...?
