Question about the Dark Brotherhood

Post » Wed May 22, 2013 2:16 am

Ok so i never though of this before but this is my understanding of the DB

-A person performs the black sacrement(sp?).

-The Night Mother gets the message.

-She informs the listener on the matter.

-The Listener either carries out the contract himself or passes it on to another member of the DB.

But what happens if someone puts out a contract on a DB member?Does the night mother still listen to the contract?Or even on the listener himself?

I doubt it as they need members to carry out the contracts so I imagine the Night Mother would ignore the request. Also it would break the tenets.

I guess DB members will come and go but the night mother will always remain. So yeah I dont see why a DB member couldnt be a contract.

Members are just fodder to be used or abused as needed by a neglectful wanna-be. :-)

What I find curious:

Spoiler
Whatever it is it's obvious the old hag and her annoying jester are just unneeded, wanna-be members. If only Astrid decided her and her loyal members were the Brotherhood right from start. Assemble those loyal and strike. Burn that stinking, desiccated corpse and her jester once and for all.

rumours being spread of people doing the Black sacrament. Then word spreads and Dark bruvas hear about it.

I think Bethesda dropped the ball on the DB quest. They should have given the questline a forking road. Road A. Siding with Astrid or Road B. Side with Cicero and the Night Mother. The Nightmother and all that jazz may be traditional, but traditions change and die all the time. The Night Mother is an unneeded relic who's just to vain to die. It'd be great if we'd have been given the option to reduce her body to ashes and go about Astrid's way.

many of the guild chains could have done well with a forking path.

The only reason all that happened was because of the Dragonborn's arrival and seemed favouritism. You'd likely feel the same had you led an operation for years and suddenly the new guys' the favourite around town.

Edit: True- The Thieves Guild questline was a bit of a drop too. I don't see why every damn guild is obsessed with soul selling. Seriously, I sold my soul to Nocturnal for powers I didn't need to fight a foe who's pretty mediocre.....

Not really defending her per se, but I see where all the pieces were set. But Bethesda seems to suffer from 'poorexecutionitis' a lot.

Very true, I completely understand the motivation but whether it's poor execution on Bethesda's part or intentional her choice of a plan makes her look like a Massive idiot.

No, killing another member of the Dark Brotherhood breaks the Tenets.

if you don't join the DB in Skyrim, NPCs can put a contract on you, if you join the DB, the contract is canceled and no more Assassins will attack you.

There is only 1 time a member of the Dark Brotherhood can kill another member:

The tenets don't exist in Skyrim. All that is left of the Brotherhood is a smelly, desiccated corpse in a casket with a bunch of fools thinking the hag makes them special. lol Does my disappointment in losing Astrid show???

I'd suppose that the Night Mother would judge that for herself. If the DB member or even the Listener merited the fulfillment then it'd be passed on to a trusted member or appropriate agent chosen by her (such as in Oblivion). Otherwise I'd imagine that the Night Mother would flip the contract on the person asking and make an example of them. All DB members are her children, and you don't throw out accusations or make such requests willy-nilly against them. Else suffer the wrath of an angry-vengeful mother.
