Great New Melee Weapon

I just made an Akaviri Dai-Katana as my main Melee Weapon:

Fire Damage 10 pts. for 1 sec
Frost Damage 10 pts. for 1 sec
Shock Damage 10pts. for 1 sec
Soul Trap for 3 sec.

I wanted to do 'in 10 ft.' but the number on the left with the lightning bolt went grey, and I couldn't select it? Can you tell me what happened?

Also, what have you made recently?

The number you refer to is the power per charge. The maximum power you can give a single charge or strike at the altar is 85. The weapon you describe sounds right about at that limit.

My latest was what I called a "Sylvan Ranger's Bow." I started with a re-textured Elven bow and added these effects:

Drain Speed 85pts for 5sec
Soul Trap for 2sec

Full charge: 2000pts (Grand soul gems have been mod-buffed for higher charge)

What it does: if it does not stop an enemy dead in his tracks, it will at least slow him down enough to make my job as a ranger a lot easier. A little trick I picked up from the duo above me. :wink_smile:

I had a free moment to investigate - the enchantment the OP wanted to make *is* possible with a Grand soul (it came out to 77), but he must have used a Greater soul for the enchantment, which only allows 60 max.

Recommend placing the soul trap effect first this ensure that you trap the soul if the enemy dies from the sword hit. As I understand it's some problems here. 2 seconds is also long enough, 1 second longer than the damage effects.

Exponential blade: daeric short sword with, soul trap 2 seconds, shock damage 10 in 1 sec, weakness to shock 100 for 3 sec and weakness to magic 100 in 3 sec.
named so because each hit does more damage than the previous.

Sacrificial dagger: soul trap 2 seconds, drain health 100 for 1 second, weakness to magic 100 for 2 seconds. second hit kills anything with less than 200 health. together with summon fire elemental for 5 seconds and Azura's star i you can fast refill your enchanted weapons.

@UnclePain- You are correct. I used a Greater Gem, because I'm lvl 13 and can't find a Grand Gem.

Where can I find Grand Souls? That's why I'm also trying to get Azura's Star w/out doing the Blood of the Divines Quest.

I think you can get a filled grand soul gem from the Mystic Emporium? That, or try the vendors at the Mages guild halls.

For max enchantment at low levels, it may be easier to go hunting necromancers. There's a chance of getting a black soul gem from the boss Adept, that you can fill at any bandit camp . Grand soul gems with grand souls are really hard to find, and you won't be able to fill your own at low levels.

Agree with this. I've had to sell some bows that just didn't work out well, as I had the soul trap effect last, and at the same time as the damage effects. So I always now put Soul Trap as the first effect, and one second longer than the heaviest damage effect and it works out really well. And one other tip regarding bows, Soul Trap at 3 seconds or more, on your bow, is useless for an archer character. I've already got another arrow ready on my bow, but must wait one precious second to see if my previous shot is the killing one. And, I found I was wasting arrows, a bummer if you are using enchanted ones. So for a primarily bow person, Soul Trap at 2 seconds is long enough, you could go to three seconds, but then I would be using heavy poisons and high-damage arrows for that kind of bow, think: shooting slower for higher damage. I tend to shoot a little faster than 3 seconds inbetween my shots.

The only prerequisite to do the Azura's Shrine quest for her Star is to be level two or higher.

Grand souls (not black grand ones from NPCs) are very rare until you hit level 20. Then you start seeing minotaur lords and a few other foes with them.

At low levels, if you were to crank your conjuration skill up to 'Oh Wow' and summon a gloom wraith or a lich, you could harvest a grand soul from them.
At any level, the Uderfryke Matron has a grand soul - if you have the stones to get it from her at low level.

Aside from that, you can learn how to turn grand soul gems into black soul gems and thereby snag any NPC's soul (they're all of grand power). Even though the Mages Guild questline will teach you how to make black soul gems, you can learn how to do so without ever going near the Mages Guild questline if you are so inclined.

Lothran has a nice little bow that he got from the Black Bow Bandits down in Leyawiin county.

It is enchanted with weakness to all elements and to magic 50% for 10 secs.
Why it′s only 50% and for 10secs is because to give Lothran time to cast the associated spell a couple of times :)

Also I must mention his daedric dagger. A piece he′s always carrying and that′s enchanted with Damage Health 5pts for 2 secs giving the dagger a damage rate of 33 when it′s improved to 125% thanks to his armorer skills

However we have other plans for when we return to Arcane University in the spring... :ninja:
