2242-2281. We are seeing the rebuilding of America, and history is repeating itself. The major factions are fighting to establish widespread civilizations and bring peace to uncivilized regions. Technology is finally beginning to advance and become widespread again, and Pre-War technology is no longer the answer to every problem like it used to be. It looks like the future will be determined by how well the people rebuild, take control of the wasteland, and work together, as opposed to fighting over little things. Still, War never changes, and somebody will get in the way.
The period of time directly after the Great War would be interesting to see. The radiation levels are still high and, for once in a Fallout game, we would actually have to worry about radiation (The Glow doesn't count). The most common enemies would be the occasional raider or wastelander that we would have to fight for whatever scraps of food or other resources we could find. It would be more of a survival-horror than a Post-Apocalyptic RPG.
The FO1-FO2 time period was a good place to start the Fallout series, but it just isn't as interesting as the other time periods. Most of the people have gathered into small tribes that are just struggling to survive. They don't have any other interests but staying alive. The greater good and the rebuilding of civilization isn't one of their priorities. Radiation is no longer a concern, and the biggest threats are simply the biggest groups of people. Even the NCR in FO2 wasn't trying to rebuild America, they were worried about overpowering the other groups in the region and expanding to make room for their citizens.
