Anyone got experience setting up Dwemer Ballistas?

Post » Sat May 25, 2013 12:58 pm

Hi all, I'm trying to set up some traps at the moment, including about two http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dwemer_Ballista#Dwemer_Ballista. The problem is, I can't exactly see where the traps are going to hit. Has anyone used these kind of traps in their own dungeons?

I'd love some pointers on how to actually predict where they'll hit- do they just go straight ahead, or do they sort of curve downwards?

The best way to figure this out would be to look at a vanilla ballista that's set up in a dungeon already. Look for an aiming mechanism, then go in game and test where they hit. With that you should be able to figure out where they shoot and how to get you're working how you want them to.

Any particular dungeons that have aiming mechanisms? There's pressure plates in WarehouseTraps, and a firing mechanism pretty much everywhere, but that's it. And all the pressure plate does is tell it to fire, not where it should hit.

I don't have the CK open right now, but look at the script attached to the ballista, assuming there is one. It may direct to aiming mechanisms. It may also simply spawn a projectile that goes forward like an arrow (So yes it would arc some).

EDIT: I'll open my CK and see if I can find anything helpful.

I see nothing to indicate any method of aiming, no linked refs, or properties in the script. I assume this is simply like any other trap, like a flame/dart trap, in that it shoots and you can't alter where it hits without just rotating the ballista in your level. You'll have to play test to figure out where it hits and adjust it until you're happy with the results.
