The official Crysis 3 disgruntled server admins thread

Post » Tue May 28, 2013 3:14 am

Time to vent some frustrations, maybe get some feeback from fellow C3 server admins, and hopefully some answers from Crytek about the numerous unfixed issues with C3 =)

1. I've rented a server from one of your "authorized hosts", and have had nothing but problems since day one. The server constantly hangs for no reason. I've been given many answers ranging from C3 server is just broken, the admin tools I'm using are causing issues, the virgin goat sacrifice was not performed at midnight on the 3rd Pagan holiday following Ramadan, etc. What is the key to keeping one of these things up and running for more than a day or two at a time without hanging up? I've tried straight up rebooting and not using any admin tools (no help), reverting back to default configuration (no help), and the goat sacrifice thing (also no help). Googling Crysis 3 server errors shows me that I'm definitely not in the minority - everyone seems to be having similar issues. Is C3 server simply that unstable?

2. What tool am I supposed to be using to admin my server? I've read through numerous threads and have tried all of them mentioned with the same results - a server crash after a few rounds of actually administering (kicking / banning players) the server. Since there is no official RCON client for C3, can somebody suggest one that will at least let me administer my server without crashing? Kinda useless to have a server that you can't administer due to fear of crashing don't you think? I can't enforce the rules on my server, then why bother having one? Everyone will get tired of the rule breakers and leave yet another server empty all the time. When I'm there and dealing with violators, the server is constantly full. I leave, the server either crashes or players ragequit when cheaters / rule violators take over the server.

3. Why can't the player kick function be fixed? Three patches into the finished product and a kicked player can still re-enter the game immediately after being kicked - over and over and over again. There's so few server with players on them these days - they will come back to the populated server they've just been booted from to cause more trouble. Happens every time...and if I ban them the server will crash after several rounds and everyone vacates to another server.

4. Why can't we have more options / control over ranked servers? As it stands now, every server is configured almost exactly the same to keep their ranked status. Again, what's the use of having your own server if it's exactly like everyone else's and you're unable to administer them properly? I would like to make the rounds last longer and ban certain one hit kill weapons on my Cell vs. Rebel server but can't due to lack of proper tools to do so...and I would lose ranked status by doing so. Ridiculous.

This will do for now, even though I could go on and on and on. I've been administering game servers since the beginning days of multiplayer, it seems that every generation of game takes away more admin control and pushes us into a proprietary format that forces us to pay for "approved" server hosts. Why do I need an approved host when I have a rack of servers sitting on gigabit backbone connections? Just give me the server files and let me roll my own for Christ's sake. Greed and neglect are the main factors that destroy every gaming franchise...what combination of these two will lead to the ultimate demise of the Crysis franchise?

If i'm forced to buy a product (server from your approved list) to have a bit of control over my gaming experience, please make it stable and relatively painless to administer. Otherwise you're going to see your online numbers continually dwindle as everyone moves to another game that at least has support for their customers.

Why post here? Tell the server hosting companies.

1. I get problems too, even disconnected from my own server. Doing certain things on the server such as setting a ping limiter or unbanning a player while the server is active will cause it to dump or crash.

2. Tell your provider to stop sending your server XML-RPC commands and use the CryLeague Rcon http://www.cryleague.net
(There is also a ping limiter through CryLeague you can use that wont crash your server)

3. Sure makes votekicking pretty damn stupid. I temporarily removed it for that reason. I may do so again until the ban limit timer gets fixed.

4. Crytek **** up. Just the sake alone that the spectator mode was added so late into the game we can't utilize it without causing the game to become unranked.
